Ann i Landers tell Norman Hall Ottawa bridge clubs Be Heard This question concerns construction which Is taking place In our area. My husband and I can see no fire walls being built between the units throughout this development and we think that such a fire wall should go in now rather than later in the buildings' construction. Any comment on this? Your concern has been discussed with fire safety officials and with building inspection officials who point out that confusion may come about as a result of changes in the law concerning the fire walls as well as new technology. Earlier laws in Ottawa called for masonry fire walls.

The Ontario Building Code (925-75) which establishes such standards now calls for such walls to have one-hour fire separation along with sound transmission. These walls may be achieved through use of wood, insulation and fire rated drywall. Further questions you may have could be directed to the city's building division at City Hall. Tournament attendance keeps falling but the clubs keep growing. Total membership in the Unit increases year to year, but few of the new players are entering the tournament circuit.

The reasons are many but the important ones involve costs. Although tournament entry fees have only gone up marginally in the past 10 years, the cost of hotels, food and gas have risen so sharply that many new players are discouraged from attending tournaments at all. One way that Ottawa players, at least, can combat costs is to commute to tournaments close enough to Ottawa that a one hour drive or less is involved. The upcoming Smiths Falls Sectional on June 15-17 is one of these. Less than 45 minutes from Ottawa, this tourna- ment is an easy commuter hop for players who want more opportunities to win master points while keeping their personal tournament costs down.

There is no one I can ask without putting myself on the spot. This, incidentally, is one of the greatest things about your column.

A person can get help without having to look anybody in the face. Question: Can a man tell if a women has had a sexual partner before him? I have heard both "yes" and "no" in answer to this one. What is the correct information? Please check with your medical authorities. Lilly Of The Valley Dear Lilly: I didn't have to check with anybody. The answer to your question is no, in most instances.

If, however, the woman has an unusually thick membrane and she is a virgin, a man would know it. (Such situations often require medical help). Dear Ann Landers: Today I read another -article critical of electric shock treatment. It was described as "inhuman, painful and frightening." I'd like to register vehement disagreement. FALSE. Men don't like aggressive women but they do find assertive women more interesting and attractive than passive types. A man likes a woman who's able to express her own thoughts even when they may conflict with his. 4 FALSE. Some men claim to, but this quickly changes after they've experienced it for a few months.

The real problem with this is that sex objects are easily replaceable. This thought isn't nattering or reassuring to either males or females. Like women, men like to feel they're loved for themselves. 5. FALSE.

Princeton's William Kirby says most men are relieved to know just what turns a woman on sexually. It leaves them free to experiment and to explore the intimate, sensitive side of a relationship because they know the woman will be honest about what pleases and displeases' her. 6. FALSE. On the international scene, the most exciting news was the victory of 16-year)ld Garri Kasparov of the USSR in the Banja Luka tournament in Yugoslavia. It is unusual for a 16-year-old to win even the weakest of international tournaments, but Banja Luka was quite strong (average rating 2487) and Kasparov won by two points over his nearest competitors!
