George Bert-ram Tomlinson, was killed in a motorcycle accident in England In October, 1941, was wounded in the joint of the right knee by shrapnel and sustained back injuries on November 10, while serving in Italy with the R.C.

TURNELL, Slightly Injured. Loudspeaker Directs Traffic Off North Shore A powerful voice, echoing out of the swirling fog mist, startles uninitiated fishermen and tugboat workers, as their boats crawl cautiously along Vancouver Harbor these days. Knowing they are safely out from shore, the sudden voice gives them a start. It gives details on how far the owner can see, information on movement of other craft and serves as a guide to North Vancouver ferries. North Shore ferry management has installed a loud-speaker at the end of Evans Coleman Evans docks to assist the ferries in direction.

It has been in use for a month, but is working overtime since the fog hit the city. U.B.C. Will Open Veterans Course About 100 ex-servicemen are expected to begin special uni-i versity courses on January 3, it was announced at the meeting of the senate of the University of B.C. Wednesday night. The courses will enable students to complete enough credits to begin the 1945 fall session in second year courses in arts, applied science and agriculture.

The special winter session will end April 27. Spring session in May and June will be arranged if sufficient number of returned men are registered. Those wishing to take the courses are asked to register now with the University. Lb B.C. Casualties His father, a veteran of the last war, recently returned to Canada for honorable discharge after two years' service overseas with the Canadian Forestry Corps. His brother, Pte. William Gordon Turnell, is with the Sas-watchewan Light Infantry in Italy, and his sister, Fte. Joan Turnell, with the C.W.A.C.

for two and one-half years, is now pte pptpr CtU Albert Malner, iives at 52 East Thirteenth. Pte. Goreny, 40, came to Canada IS years ago from his home i Hungary, where his father, two brothers and two sisters still live as far as it known. They have not been heard from since the beginning of the war. He was slightly injured in No- vember in Italy, where he is i serving with ihe R.C.A.M.C.

Goreny operated a farm in the Okanagan for some time, then moved to Vancouver, and enlisted here in May, 1941 He has been overseas feince Decern-1 ber, 1942, and has served in Jtaly throughout the campaign there. A. W. Fret-well, 8(2 East Forty-ninth. Pte. Fretwell, 23, with the I'm Canadian Paratroop Battalion, parachuted in Western Europe from a wrecked plane about three months ago, but this is all that his family knows about his having been presumably missing at any time.

He was born in Vancouver e. a. return, and educated at Tecumseh School and was with Canadian White Pine when he enlisted in vvnne fine wnen ne cniisiea jii 1942 in the Canadian Armored Corps. He went overseas in May, 1943, and trained in Eng land as a paratrooper, sustain- ing an Injured ankle last sum-still In mer wnue he was training. His wife, with the R.C.A.F.

(W.D.), is now in England, where ehe is stationed in Yorkshire. Pte. Fretwell has two sisters and five brothers in Vancouver. DIED. Gnr.

Thomas Forshaw, R.C.A., son of Mrs. Agnes Forshaw, Greenwood. Gnr. Forshaw died in Shaugh-nessy Military Hospital on December 4, after being invalided home for wounds received In action with the R.C.A. in France in September.

He was previously in hospital in France and England and arrived home not very long ago in cheerful spirits. One of the tallest men in the Canadian Army, six feet six inches, Gnr. Forshaw enlisted early in the war and was stationed in B. C. for two years prior fo going overseas in'Au-gust, 1943.

He leaves, besides his parents, three brothers, one of whom Is with the R.C.A.F., and one sister. Says Air Force Won Normandy It was the complete supremacy of the Allied air force that weighed tle scales In our favor during the Normandy campaign, Major H. G. Scott, soldier and war correspondent, told the Canadian Club at a luncheon meeting, Hotel Vancouver Thursday. Mr.

Scott, who resigned his commission in the Canadian Army because he could not get overseas, witnessed the Normandy campaign and much of the liberation of France as an R.A.F. correspondent for a Scottish newspaper.
