The correspondent noted that there are no Byelorussian Yiddish-language books or newspapers in the stores although Byelorussia publishes 128 newspapers and last year issued 1,612 book titles.

He said Yiddish writers appear either in the Moscow-published Yiddish magazine, Soviet Homeland, or in translation. Originally placed before the Knesset in February 1962, the bill evoked sharp criticism.

It was withdrawn by the Cabinet which referred it to a Ministerial Law Committee. The amended measure eliminates as punishable libels committed in overseas publications written by correspondents stationed in Israel. It also has dropped a clause which would have authorized Israel's courts to ban publication of judgments in defamation cases. The use of yogurt goes back to the dawn of history, and while it was continuously enjoyed in many regions, it was unknown in others. Quite recently, when yogurt was introduced into our own cuisine, it was thought to have some mysterious property which contributed to long life. Actually, yogurt needs nothing mysterious to be considered a most valuable food. Since it is made with partly skimmed milk, it contains all the nutrients which make milk so important in our diet. At the same time it is lower in calo ries than whole-milk.

Many users find that the culture which turns the milk into a custard-like solid is also an aid to digestion. Today we can purchase yogurt plain or flavored. It can be used in many recipes from appetizers through dessert, or as a between-meal snack. Similar in tangy taste and appearance to dairy sour cream, plain yogurt is a fine low-calorie substitute for the cream in borsht, or as a topping for hot vegetables or blintzes. It may take the place of the cream in many recipes for baked fish as well.

Yogurt makes a fine salad dressing too. Exceptionally good with cucumbers is one made by whipping until smooth 4 parts of plain yogurt to 1 part of lemon or lime juice, then adding salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Along the Riviera a favorite dessert at lunch is a cup of plain yogurt lightly sprinkled with confectioners' sugar. The flavored yogurts are delicious desserts whether served just as they come from the package or combined with other ingredients into puddings. Our first recipe today is for a jiffy borsht made with yogurt instead of sour cream.

It has the rich flavor and color of the original version but is much lower in calories. The second recipe, Israeli in origin, is for a topping of cottage cheese blended with yogurt which can be varied for both III We Never Handle Frozen Trout or White Fish IStVD free parking HWr CESS! Such events as the following ransform the news scene into a world of unreality. Egypt's Nasser acquires Soviet arms and Nazi technicians for the announced aim of destroying Israel.

The State Department studies the situation and concludes that Nasser is increasingly peaceful. The Jewish War Veterans, heeding United States Government ad vice, seek to alleviate the piigni of Soviet Jewry by appealing to world public opinion. The anti-Zionist "American Council for Ju-d a i condemns the veterans, whose membership includes Con- gressional Medal of Honor recip- ients and battlefield amputees, for "cowardice" and "pro-Zionism" questioning the veterans' Amcr" icanism. "More Arabs Than Jews" State Department officials condemn Congressmen for allegedly catering to Jewish voters by backing Israel. Rep.

Wayne Hays, Ohio Democrat, on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, responds that "I have more Arabs in my district than Jews." He assails State Department appeasement of Nasser. The State Department accuses the people of Yemen of aggression against the Nasser-imposed, Commijnist-supported puppet regime. Nasser reneges on his agreement to withdraw forces from Yemen. Soviet pilots fly troop transports leased by Nasser from Russia. When Nasser threatens aggression against Israel, the State Department says "we do not expect an attack." But when a question arises of Israel making a defensive move into Jordan, if Jordan collapses to Nasserite pressures, the State Department has ready a "contingency plan" to restrain and punish Israel.

Danger of Missile Build-Up Israel is gravely concerned over a missile build-up in Egypt aided by Nazis and other Germans. The State Department feels Israel should be pleased the Germans are there because, in their stead, the Russians might be invited. Nasser spends $700 million for Soviet bloc munitions. The United States will continue economic aid to Egypt, allowing continued diversion on Egyptian resources for Soviet arms purchases. Simultaneously, American soldiers die in battle in southeast Asia against Communist-equipped forces.

(JTA) John C. Vinson 18-year-old adherent of Neo-Nazism and a known smearer of swaskikas, was found guilty of a first degree mur der here in the fatal shooting last September of Lewis M. Goldfein, 17, a Jewish honor student. First degree murder in Virginia is punishable by death or a prison sentence of from 20 years to life. Vinson, whose father is a Washington, D.C.

policeman, had been under mental confinement since his arrest for the crime, but psychiatrists found him able to distinguish right from wrong and, therefore, competent to stand trial. The psychiatrists' testimony portrayed Vinson, who was fascinated Nazism as possessing a strong potential for hatred and violence. Judge Albert V. Bryan, said Vinson's actions were "deliberate and purposeful" noting that had carefully armed himself with a revolver and extra ammunition before going to the Goldfein home. Dr.

William Enos, a pathologist who is also an expert in ballistics, testified that Goldfein was shot three times in what the doctor termed a deliberate, aimed series of shots. The judge, who will pronounce sentence in June said Vinson's mental condition "may mitigate punishment, but not the offense."
