Miss Ethel Polacheck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Polacheck, 2614 Cedar street, contributes an article on the "Typical Picaresque English Romances of the Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries" to the April issue of the Smith college monthly. Mr. and Mrs.

Harry J. Mandelker, 724 Prospect avenue, announce the birth of a son on Friday, April 27. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Werner, Maryland avenue, who spent the winter in Tampa, have returned to the city.

Mrs. Julia D. Bowers and Miss Frieda Dalberg were hostesses at a bridge-luncheon on Tuesday and a 7 o'clock dinner followed by bridge. One of the smartest social affairs of the season is Milwaukee Downer's Senior Prom, a dinner dance to be held at the Wisconsin Club May 11 at 7 o'clock. Among those who have made reservations are Beatrice Klaf-ter, Dorothy Lowenstein, Chicago, Rose Cohen, Cecelia Isaacman, Evelyn Izner, Celina Feld, Ida Bach and Helen Miller.

GITTELL GROSSMAN Funeral services for Mrs. Gittell Grossman, who died on Wednesday, May 2, at the age of 80, were held at the residence, 940 Tenth street on Thursday afternoon, May 3, with interment at Beth Medosh Godel cemetery.

Mrs. Grossman was the wife of Moses Grossman, and the mother of Messrs. Louis, Joseph, Peter and Frank Grossman, and Mrs. Rose Vinarsky and Mrs. Celia Brossell, all of this city.

ALEPH ZADIK ALEPH Over 300 people attended the A.Z.A. Spring frolic and dance held at the Golden Links temple on May 2. Special features of the entertainment were a tap dance team composed of Albert Gold and Hy Rich and a prize waltz won by Rosalind Rapkin and Tommy Rosenberg. Dorothy Goldman and Albert Gold received the second prize. The local A.Z.A.

soft ball team defeated the Lincoln House A. C. last Sunday. Eddie Friedman pitched for the A.Z.A.'s and practically won his own game by making twelve strikeouts. Aleph Friedman was captain of last year's team.

The tennis and golf teams are practicing regularly and are desirous for contests with local teams. On May 16 the fourth anniversary class will be initiated into the chapter and a delegate to attend the fifth International convention at Denver will be elected. Members are reminded that the quarterly dues must be paid to retain membership in the Order. Aleph Gisbor Sol Lewensohn wishes to emphasize this to all delinquent members. LADIES SOCIETY, HOME DEPENDENT CHILDREN The Ladies Society for the Home of Dependent Jewish Children will install their newly elected officers Tues-evening, May 8, at the Community Hall of the Temple Anshe Lebovitz, corner Eleventh and Reservoir.

Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Bender, Cramer street, have left for a visit in Ko-komo, Ind.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kann have moved from 2328 McKinley boulevard to 578 Cramer street. Miss Frieda Poss has returned from Florida where she spent several months. A daughter was born to Mr.

and Mrs. Fred Goodman, 456 Ivanhoe place, on April 20. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Levy, 999 Fortieth street, have moved to 749 Maryland avenue.

Council, Jewish Women The Board of the Council of Jewish Women will hold a meeting in the Community House of Temple Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun Tuesday morning, May 10, at 10 a. m. Hadassah Theatre Party Plans for Hadassah's annual benefit performance to be given this year at the Alhambra theater the week of May 14 are well under way. The purpose of this performance is to complete Hadassah's quota. The co-operation of everyone is urged to make this the most successful theater party in the history of the organization.

Board Meeting A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Milwaukee Chapter of Hadassah is to be held Wednesday afternoon May 9 at 2:30 in room 156, Hotel Wisconsin. It is important that all members of the Board attend this meeting. JUNIOR HADASSAH The Milwaukee Juniors are honoring its mother organization, Milwaukee Chapter of Hadassah, at a meeting on May 7, at the Gymal Doled club rooms. Invitations have been sent to each Hadassah member and they are all urged to be present. Among those who will appear on the program will be Ethel Silver, a very talented pianist and Ilsa Wie-senborn, vocalist.

Goldie Kastrul will give "A Junior Impression of Henrietta Szold." Mildred Druskin will talk on "Junior Hadassah and the Nurses Training School." Baron Huenefeld Is Son of Jewish Mother Berlin. (J.T.A.) Baron Gunther von Huenefeld, financial backer and passenger of the Bremen on the first westward transatlantic flight, is the son of a Jewish mother, "Das Berlin-ner Tageblatt" declares. The announcement was made to counteract the anti-Semitic propagan da which has been carried on by the Deutschnazionale newspapers in connection with the flight. Baron Huenefeld's mother was the daughter of the German Jewish merchant, Marcus Lachman. She is a cousin of the publishers of the "Berlinner Tageblatt," Lachmann and Rudolf Mosse.

Bronstein, who is a native of Odessa, was exiled to Usbekistan for Zionist activities. No Cover Saturday Mrs. Archibald Silverman Resigns as Vice-President Of Hadassah New York. (J.T.A.) Mrs.

Archibald Silverman, a vice-president of the Hadassah, Women's Zionist Organization, announced her resignation from that office. Her step followed a meeting on Sunday of the National Board of Hadassah which adopted a resolution of "no confidence" in the present Zionist Administration and made other decisions which Mrs. Silverman characterized as a "violation" of Hadassah's purpose. Mrs. Silverman, who has been identified with the Zionist movement in America for 22 years, said in her letter of resignation, which was addressed to Mrs.

Irma Lindheim, president of Hadassah: "I am compelled by the course which events have taken in the Hadassah Organization to tender my resignation as a vice-president of the organization.
