Morgan is a pure Aryan, the Nazi press printed blasting articles condemning him, not only as a Jew, but even as "the sun-crowned Jew king." Morgan's statements criticizing Germany, the Prussian Press Department of the Nazi party circulated an article written by Wilhelm Berger, Reichstag member, condemning him as a Jew. made theatrical history in so many countries, would find a greater range of expression and thrive better in its own national cultural home? The Habima is a striking example of what Jewish histrionic talent can accomplish in its natural sphere. I am not certain whether the achievements of the Habima could be emulated in the Diaspora without the Hebrew language as a medium of expression. I think that a Jewish Arts Theatre in each country where there is a sufficient number of Jews represents a satisfactory solution of the problem, or at least a first step towards a satisfactory solution. In such a theatre plays of Jewish life and character could be performed, in the language of the country, by Jewish casts.

No doubt, particularly at the outset, it would be very difficult to establish and maintain such theatres. In the first place, there would probably be a great deal of outside antagonism to be overcome in some countries. JEWISH ORPHAN HOME The arrangements for the picnic to be held by the Milwaukee Jewish Orphan Home at DeWirth's Grove on Highway 55, known as the Fond du-Lac road, at the intersection of the county trunk to be held on Sunday, July 16, were completed at the regular meeting of the board of directors last Monday evening. Announcement tickets were mailed out to a number of members, the regular admission tickets being for sale at the gate only. Through the solicitation of Sam Rosen, several of the Milwaukee breweries and beer distributors offered to donate all the beer required for sale at the picnic. Through solicitation of Mr. Rosen and Nathan Stein several of the Jewish commission merchants offered to donate the fruit and produce required to be sold at the picnic.

A truck load will be picked up under their supervision on Saturday afternoon. For the accommodation of those who are compelled to take street car conveyance, trucks of the Sunshine Dairy company will leave as early as 10 a. m. at the corner of Fond du Lac avenue and Thirty-fifth street to convey the visitors from the end of the street car line to the picnic grounds. How Funds Are Used The funds that are being sent abroad, he said, are used for five major purposes: one to enable a large number of Jews in Germany who will have to remain in that country to rebuild their lives, their work and occupations; two to house, feed and clothe thousands of business men, employees, working men and others who are without any means of support at the present moment; three to help maintain Jewish institutions of welfare from which government subventions have been withdrawn; four to provide an adequate system of schooling for Jewish youth who are now without an opportunity of obtaining education; five to provide aid for the thousands of Jews who are forced to migrate from that country.

I think that this great movement ought to be launched by Anglo-Jewry. During my recent visit to Oxford I have been struck with the physical and mental freshness of British youth as much as with their fairness of outlook. In a country whose youth comes up to the best ideals of youth a Jewish cultural renaissance by Jewish youth should have every chance of success. the culture of the various nations who have been our hosts throughout all these long centuries. That has made it very difficult for us to revive our own Jewish culture, to achieve a sort of cultural self-con-tainedness or even to define sufficiently closely what Jewish culture is.

I hasten to say that I am not advocating cultural isolation. That would be a calamity to us, as well as to the civilized nations to whose culture we are proud to have contributed and who appreciate our contributions. What I do advocate is a Jewish cultural renaissance in which Jewish achievements in the fields of literature, art, music, and the drama should bear the unmistakable hall mark of their Jewishness and in which Jewish genius should not be compelled to assume the disguise of another nationality. I am convinced that such a renaissance would stimulate us to ever higher attainments and would also benefit the rest of the world, perhaps to a far greater extent than at present. Who, for instance, can doubt that Jewish historionic talent, which has been ordered not only to boycott Jewish shops, but also Jewish cafes and restaurants and places patronized by strumentality of the 'cold pogrom' against which the Jews of Germany are so.

Leonard Tietz Company, owning ten department stores in western Germany, with a capitalization at 23,000,000 Marks, will henceforth carry the, name of "Western Germany Department Stores, formerly Tietz Company," according to a unanimous decision at a meeting of shareholders held at Cologne. Herr Tietz's name will not appear on the buildings housing his department stores. None of the members of the Tietz family was re-elected to the administration at the shareholders' conference. Herr Alfred Tietz, together with a Nazi official, was appointed an advisor.

The manner in which the government gained control of the Tietz stores was to impose a high tax on the busienss wihch the owners were unable to meet. This gave the Nazis the legal excuse to step in and take over the business. It is manifestly fitting therefore, that the Manischewitz Fine Arts award should be presented to Isaac Van Grove for his imaginative conception of Israel's contribution to the culture of the world the pageant, "The Romance of A People."
