D-6 BERGEN THE RECORD, WEDNESDAY, JULY 31. 1965 North Jersey SportsHorse Racing No hitch in this iZy's giddy up UESCQ4SfT TTTT7 i tpJL" I last turn, then packed it in. "I don't know what happened," Ulf Nordin said. "She just stopped. I have a feeling something is wrong and she's not sound." Britelite Lobell had no such trouble.

She took up the chase of Blossoms Pride and Sassy Gesture turning into the stretch, passed those two with ease, and accelerated away with Campbell seeking and not finding any threats. Wendys Joker, 23-1 with Pat Crowe, got going late for second, lVfe lengths ahead of the 55-1 Sassy Gesture and Richard Midden. Blossoms Pride, 7-2 third choice with William Parker, managed to salvage fourth place. "Two-year-old filly trotters are the toughest to handle," said trainer Fred Grant, whose Wendys Joker helped fashion a 127.60 exacta. "Anything can happen." With Britelite Lobell, what happened was a record-setting victory.

NOTES Campbell forged ahead of Bill O'Donnell in the local money race with the big score. Campbell had 4,154,098 and O'Donnell 4,339,256 going into last night's Shesellsseashells took the 50,000 Merrie Annabelle consolation (53.40, The Merrie Annabelle stakes mark had been 1:58:1, set by champion Davidia Hanover and Campbell in 1984. Campbell, never running out of hot horses, gets behind Follow My Star in the 150,000 first division of the Countess Adios for 2-year-old pacing fillies tonight at The Meadowlands. Follow My Star and colleague Bon Jour Blue Chip are 1-5. The three-horse Haughton Stable coupling of Valentina, Caressable, and Swinger Almahurst is 3-5 in the 150,000 second division of the Countess Adios.

By Bob Raimonto Racing Writer EAST RUTHERFORD With a sixteenth of a mile to go in last night's $627,250 Merrie Annabelle final, driver John Campbell peered over his right shoulder looking for competition. There was none. His horse, the diminutive filly Britelite Lobell, hit the wire 5 lengths clear in 1:57:3, the fastest time posted by a 2-year-old trotter of either sex in the nine-year history of The Meadow-lands Racetrack. "I shook the whip at her a few times, but she couldn't have raced any better," said Campbell. "She's a perfect little horse to drive." Express Ride, winner of the $1-million Peter Haughton Memorial for colts Monday night at the Big had very briefly held the overall track mark for 2-year-olds with a 1:57:4 clocking.

If Express Ride made a name for himself as a contender for the 1986 Hambletonian, so too did Britelite Lobe 11 establish herself as a serious candidate for the '86 Hambletonian Oaks. She earned 313,625 and paid 6.80 as the 2-1 second choice in the wagering. The three-horse Nordin Stable entry of Chilling Thoughts, Corvette Lauxmont, and Witsends Lady went off as the 6-5 favorite but bombed on a night in which public choices fell by the wayside with outrageous regularity. Corvette Lauxmont came in sixth, Witsends Lady ninth, and Chilling Thoughts 10th in the 12-horse field. Chilling Thoughts was deemed the best of the trio off her 1:59:4 score in a Merrie Annabelle elimination.

The young filly, however, chased the pacesetter Blossoms Pride and the pace-forcer Sassy Gesture into the 1S5SR12 I Ridgefield Park catcher Garett Teel tags out Lyndhurst's Mark Kesack trying to ITorlnpTrPs 12-4 victory in the championship game of the Bergen American Legion baseball tournament. Play of team leaders enables Ridgefield Park to advance since the towns had competing teams at the 13-year-old level four years ago. Teel was the catcher for Park Ridge's Anthony Catanzaro during the Garden State Games. Preakness Valley duo reaches Four Ball semi run in the sixth for Butler. Gary Gei-ger struck out five and allowed two hits.

NEW MILFORD 9, BERGEN-FIELD 7 Russ Buehler had three runs batted in and Dick Collins was 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead New Milford. Collins and Buehler both doubled in a run in the third. Brian O'Neill drove in three runs for Ber-genfield. PARAMUS 5, NORWOOD 3 Keith Hansen had three singles, including a third-inning hit that put Paramus ahead to stay. Paul Meyer struck out six and allowed only one earned run.

Metropolitan League Jerry Mayo tripled in two runs to give Elmwood Park a 4-3 lead, and the Orioles moved to a 5-3 Met League victory over Palisades Park. Tony Bellino had two hits for Palisades Park. CLIFTON BASKINGERS 2, VERONA 2 Steve Adelheim had an RBI on a squeeze bunt and Mike Patti tripled home Clifton's other run in this game, which was suspended after seven innings and will be completed next Wednesday. Glen Gardner tripled in two runs for Verona, and Scott Gottko gave up only three hits. Tommy League John Giesel struck out six for Washington Township in its 10-6 win over Montvale in the Tommy League Tournament at Westvale Park in Westwood.

Neither player could get going in Ridgefield Park's 12-6 loss to Lynd-hurst Monday in the Bergen County American Legion tournament. Last night was different, as the duo paced a 12-4 Ridgefield Park victory that won the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Ridgefield Park meets regular-season champion Park Ridge tonight for the county championship. Teel was a study in frustration Monday. He was overswinging and not completely following the pitch, grunting loudly after each of three fly-ball outs. Last night, Teel relaxed and kept his head still at the plate. The result was a first-inning triple that drove Tim Carey home with the first run.

Teel singled sharply down the left-field line in his next at-bat, driving in the first of five runs Ridgefield Park scored in the bottom of the third. Teel finished the evening with three hits. He also reached base on a walk and a hit-by-pitch. He stole a base, and made a fine defensive play in the second inning when he held on to a throw and tagged out Mark Kesack at the plate after Kesack collided with him. "My bat has been slow in the tournament," Teel said.

"I choked up on the bat a little, and it felt good to have my teammates cheering me on." Bramley pitched well earlier in the tournament, shutting out Rutherford by a 2-0 score. He wasn't as sharp last night, walking eight batters, but received solid defensive support. "When the chips are down, our battery comes through for us," Ridgefield Park coach Bob Lange said. Lange and manager Gene Warli-kowski credited the renewed offense for negating the sloppy effort of Monday night. John Zuzeck had two doubles, driving in five runs.

Barry Williams drove in four runs, including two on a single in the third. Ridgefield Park's game against Park Ridge will renew a rivalry that, Teel said, has been going on laekwall Price Sua 14SSR13 155SR13 165SR13 175SR14 165SR15 ss.ss ig.se sa.ss ST.
