THE WISCONSIN JEWISH CHRONICLE February 9, 1951 10 Mapam Defines Stand Toward Russia; Attack Communist Party of Israel What's New on The Spouts Thau, By Larry Lederman TEL AVIV (JTA) Three factions within the left-wing So-i-ialist Manam Party issued pro would, on the contrary, destroy forever the chances of recognition of political Zionism." The program of this faction ies not clearly state whether it is neutral to the Eastern Bloc or nether it identifies itself with it. Sam Krakow Cops Coveted Crown For the Information of Contributors To Israel Philanthropy Sam Krakow copped the roveted Jewish Open Bowling title with a total aggregate of 987 on successive games of 235, 212, 195, 183, with their averages and that's good bowling Sol Gollin uses the Wednesday night league to warm up because he always shoots Obituaries and lo2. Close behind him were such past winners as Aaron Goldsmith, Emil Weiss, last year's defending gram manifestos in advance of the forthcoming intra-party elections. All three groups attacked the Communist Party of Israel. The largest group within the party Hashomer Hatair called for continuation of the struggle to achieve recognition by the "international revolutionary camp" of the Zionist solution of the Jewish problem. The Hashomer Hatair, which attacked the local Communists' "infiltration" of the Mapam, also called for a merger on an international scale with the "camp led by the Soviet Union." The Achdut Avoda, second largest group in the party, insists in its election program that Jewish socialism can be attained only through "gathering in the exiles" as long as the "Jewish national future cannot be solved within the borders of the socialist countries." This faction's program rejects a merger with the "international revolutionary camp" but pledges "loyalty" to it and asserts its complete neutrality even in a major international conflict. Lessons concerning Zionism as "the ideology of Jewish nationalist bourgeoisie in the service of imperialism" are included in the title holder, and Hy Dennenberg.

Ironically enough, Krakow had to be persuaded to enter the tournament and he was a last moment registrant. Krakow's hook bend toward the head pin with consistency until the pressure in the last game was too much. He fell down to 162. The tournament started off as a duel between Krakow, Dennenberg and Goldsmith; but in the last two games, Dennenberg bobbled his second game to a 121 which almost placed him completely out of the running. Goldsmith racked up a poor 157 game on alleys 12 and 12 when the pin-boy was forced to set by hand.

The delay ruffled Goldsmith and his course. Its primacy in this field has been endorsed by the overwhelming majority of Jewish communities throughout the United States and the organizations through which they operate. This primacy is based upon the tremendous scope of the activities which are carried on in Israel through United Jewish Appeal funds.

These funds are the backbone of the Jewish State's huge immigration, colonization and absorption program. UJA dollars financed the transportation and settlement in Israel of every one of the 600,000 immigrants who've come to her shores since the establishment of the State in May, 1948. UJA dollars must continue to finance the immigration and absorption of the 600,000 additional immigrants who are expected to arrive in Israel during the next three years. Unwarranted Campaigns In addition to the United Jewish Appeal, certain other authorized organizations with established traditions of constructive work in Israel can legitimately lay claim to public support in the United States and elsewhere. Rut occasionally individuals and organizations launch new campaigns in behalf of Israel, enterprises of special and limited character.

These enterprises are not always constructive and the claims put forward in their behalf are not always warranted by the facts. The Authorization of Drives As a direct result of demands by the organized Jewish communities of the United States, and with the support and sympathy of the Government of Israel, the Jewish Agency for Palestine set up one year ago a Committee on Control and Authorization of Campaigns. The function of the Committee is to scrutinize all proposed campaigns in behalf of Israel with a view to establishing the validity of their claims and their general usefulness. When In Doubt The Committee will shortly announce what campaigns for Israel, in addition to the United Jewish Appeal, will be authorized for 1951. In the meantime you are urged when asked for contributions by any organization other than the United Jewish Appeal to examine carefully the claims put forward by the canvassing group.

If you are in doubt, write to the JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE, Committee On Control And Authorization Of Campaigns, 16 East 66th Street, New York 21, N. Y. The Jewish Agency for Palestine hopes that the American Jewish public will support the United Jewish Appeal in 1951 with unprecedented vigor and generosity. The need hat never been greater. They were types whose essential distinguishing trait was the sa me. Certainly one of the distinctive traits of Abraham Lincoln was his sense of humor.

I do not know whether the Abraham, who came out of of the Chaldees, was particularly noted for this characteristic or not. One of the stories about him suggests that he had a sense of humor. Once, we are told, his father Terah, who was in the idol manufacturing business, left Abraham in the care of the shop and when he returned in the evening found all his gods smashed. When he reproached Abraham for the wreckage, the latter said it was not his fault but that two of the bigger gods had gotten into a brawl and in the melee had tending that Abraham of the Bible was quite the humorist that Abraham Lincoln was. Sharp as Lincoln's sense of humor was, it was but the manifestation of a sensy of hum'inity which makes us admire Lincoln.

Abraham of the Bible stood out above other men for the same reason. When God planned the destruction of the wicked cities of Sodom nnd Gomorrah, Abraham pleaded: "Will a just God destroy the righteous with the wicked?" Then he struck a bargain with God to spare the cities even if ten righteous men are to be found in them. When question arises about the ownership of some land, he sought to avoid a quarrel. "There is plenty of land for all of us," he said. "If you will go to the right, I will go to the left." VK JEWS REGARD HIM as the Father of our people, bu' faithful as he was to his own clan, he was a universalist.

Ab raham means "father of nations," not simply of one nation. And the Bible tells us that his vision was that through his people the whole world would be blessed. Abraham was a in of humanity arid Lincoln was a man of humanity. smashed everything. "You know very well, replied Terah, "that these gods can't move about or do anything else." IIOWEVKR. I AM NOT con game. No one kept posted on Shimon's score as he contributed openers of 180 and 176, but he rushed back with games of 208, 195, and 221 to almost overtake Krakow. Shimon knocked down the last five frames for strikes to finish in a blaze of glory, but only by one pin short of being a double winner. Dowlers who placed in the money are: Hy Dennenberg, 904; Bob Engel and Aaron Goldsmith, 955; Phil Schneiderman, 951; Emil Weiss, 950; Lou Schlafman, 929; and Jack Peterman, 898.

He finished only 24 pins away as he registered a 276 record and another honor mark of 676. Billy Itnscn had such a good night, he hit 600, that he finally entered the Jewish Open Tourney.
