Nebraska 22-11 67 Others receiving votes: LSU 65, Loyola of Chicago 61, Florida 52, Indiana 34, Marquette 34, Hello, Bo. Welcome back, Woody. missed Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes and that intense and sometimes insane rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State the best in football history and maybe the best in sports. Now Bo and Woody are back. They go by the names of Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio.

And I love it. You do, too. How could you not? Everything about last Michigan-Michigan State football game screamed Bo and Woody. From the pregame antics, to the game in which Harbaugh secured a huge win, to the memorable smack talk. This, my friends, is what college football is all about.

personal and passionate. raw and real. Bo and Woody are back. Like it or not, we have to thank Harbaugh for this, for sev- eral reasons. First and foremost, he won the Oct.

20 game, evened his record against MSU to 2-2 and cut into mighty record against U-M, bringing it to a still-whopping 8-4. But Harbaugh, and Michigan, also won the war of words and the war of righteousness. From the pregame antics be- tween both teams to strong post-game defense of his team, Harbaugh got it right. He called actions doubled down Monday by reiterating his comment and sniping at Dantonio for calling his comment Dantonio took the opposite tack. He said almost nothing.

And then he doubled down on saying nothing Tuesday, in- voking God, intimidating reporters by threatening to end his news conference if they dared keep asking about the inci- dent. Predictably, the feckless Big Ten and commissioner Jim Delany stepped in and tried to look tough by issuing repri- mands and issuing a $10,000 to MSU, a school with a operating budget. the equivalent of mak- ing the Spartans put a quarter in the swear jar. Delany and the Big Ten be bothered to say or do almost anything about Urban gross mishandling of the Zach Smith situation. But they needed to weigh in on a little pushing and shoving and coaches, you know, talking.

Hey, Big Ten. This is a rivalry, intrastate, brother- against-brother thing. Stay out of this. not saying a saint. No one is.

And the point. Harbaugh, Dantonio and their players are all humans. But they are humans, with real emotions. There has been talk before between the coaches, but now it feels real because, face it, Michigan was for respect before the game, during the game, and afterward at Spartan Stadi- um. I was a guest last week on Paul W.

show on WJR- AM (760), discussing my column about the Big Ten needing Harbaugh to be better against his rivals. Smith made a good point when he said a rivalry one-sided much of a rivalry. Harbaugh and U-M needed to beat MSU to truly make it a rivalry in a similar way that Bo needed to beat Woody in their meeting in 1969. win was a big upset. But Har- win last week also was an upset because he and U-M needed to prove they choke.

This is going to go down as a touchstone moment in the rivalry. It will be remembered for the 100-yard walk, Devin Bush tearing up the Spartans logo, and the and trash talk. Mostly, it should be remembered for Harbaugh and Michi- gan standing up for themselves. They put some baritone in all that talk that sounded pretty tinny and hollow recently. I wait for next rematch.

Welcome back, Bo and Woody. We missed you. Not So Bad Boys? up with the Pistons? Seriously, who saw this coming? entered Satur- day 4-0 their best start in a decade. Blake dropped 50 on the Sixers. Andre playing great.

If Luke shoulder injury too serious (an MRI on Friday revealed it was an AC sprain), or the other wing players step up, the Pistons could keep this rolling. It be crazy to think if they beat the Charlotte Hornets on Nov. 11 at home, they could be 9-3 through their 12 games. If they do that, we might need to start calling them the Not So Bad Boys. rating: spirit animal: Hooper doing a back into arms.

TV or not TV? So the Ilitch organization is considering starting its own regional sports network? That means the family that owns the Tigers and Red Wings also would directly hire its own broadcasters for those teams. Too bad. I sure would miss all that unbiased analysis at Fox Sports Detroit from guys like Mickey Redmond and Rod Allen. Ilitch rating: Ilitch spirit animal: Two com- fortable chairs.
