The opponents also claimed that the original April 2, 1952 meeting for residents to vote on the proposed site was so crowded and disorganized that many of their group had not been allowed to vote. As a result of their protests and an appeal filed by Attorney Charles J. Gaughan on their behalf, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr.

Lewis Wilson set aside the first vote and ordered a new election. The second vote was held on May 6 in each of the eight district buildings; and a record turnout of 2,501 voters approved both the Bayview site for the Junior-Senior High School and the Pinehurst site just off Lake Shore Road in Lake View for an elementary school. Only 965 had voted in the original April election held in the Woodlawn High School auditorium. The Pinehurst building was ready for its first students in January 1955 and the Frontier Junior-Senior High School was opened in September of that year. Actually the Frontier School System was created on June 28, 1951 when the voters of the district approved the Centralization Plan. The new district was then formally organized at a meeting at the Athol Springs School on July 17, 1951, and one year later in June 1952 the first class of seniors graduated as students of Frontier Central. It was seven months after that graduation that the photo seen here was taken, as ground was broken for the U- Superintendent Ernest Hoeldke, Board Members Ralph Garnish, Weston Wardell, Homer Rowe, Henry Leyh, District Clerk Lorraine Bauer Eyman, John Kleis, Howard Durni, Harold Mathes, John Barber, F.
