Walt Jankowski Clifton Unions need to go Not coincidentally, job creation during this tepid recovery is talcing place in right-to-work states. The auto industry is a prime example, where factories are booming across the South and shuttered in the Rust Belt. Internationally the picture is even more pronounced. Countries where unions still have a presence have little economic joy. Now take a look at the rising industrial and service economies of India and Brazil.

You'll have a hard time finding unions in the streets waging their permanent class struggle there as you will across drowsy Europe. Instead you'll find a rising standard of living and a flexible, dynamic worker pool. The organized labor movement is down to its last cigar. That's a good thing. It only matters to people who wish to wear a Viking helmet and bang a drum in the street.

Those of us who exhibit rational judgment will head to our jobs and get on with our lives and live better. One of our latest fundraisers was our senior prom fashion show. Many very generous businesses, their owners and staff helped make this a beautiful show by donating their time, talent and wares. MaryAnn Cornet Clifton A lot of psychobabble I would just like to comment on Mark Kalinowski's article, "Plain Facts," which was published in your April 6 edition. First, this article, like most if not all of Kalinowski's letters are full of right-wing psychobabble but very lacking in facts. I myself participated at the Occupy movement demonstrations at Zuccotti Park and all I saw no illegal or immoral activity during any of the times I attended. As far as the Brooklyn Bridge incidents goes, the people arrested were herded by the New York City police on to those lanes and subsequently arrested.

Most, if not all, of those arrested were eventually released and all criminal charges were dropped. I believe the police were acting as the personal army for billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg whose fortunes were made on Wall Street. God forbid people exercise their first amendment rights and call attention to the mayor's cash cow. Kalinowski mentions arrests in other cities however I would like to point out one incident in Oakland, Calif, where the police fired tear gas on a peaceful demonstration where a Iraq war veteran by the name of Scott Olsen sustained a serious injury after being hit in the head by a tear gas can ister fired by the Oakland Police Department. No arrests were ever made for that act of violence.

Kalinowski mentions millions and millions of Tea Party people standing up for the Constitution and waving American flags but once again he is giving us another dose of his right-wing psychobabble. I myself took part in a demonstration in Lafayette Park, which is right in front of the White House, back in March of 2010 where about 10,000 demonstrators marched through the streets of Washington protesting the endless wars being waged by the U.S. government on behalf of U.S. corporations and Wall Street. At the same time a few hundred tea baggers showed up on Capital Hill to protest healthcare.

So in closing I would just like to remind everybody that liberals protest senseless wars whereas conservatives protest healthcare. So who is really pro life? Ken Dalton Clifton Get the facts straight I get a chuckle out of my fellow Air Force veteran Joe Sidor as he simply won't face the facts. President Bill Clinton was not a draft dodger, whereas Vice President Dick Cheney was. As a matter of fact Cheney received five or six draft deferments after he dropped out of Yale after a few months. It's no mystery how he got his draft deferments.

The fix was in. However, several years ago, I happened to be watching a talk show where the discussion was about Clinton's draft status during the Vietnam War. The guest happened to be the commissioner of the Selective Service Commission in Washington. You remember what Selective Service meant draft! The commissioner stated that Clinton did register for the draft like all good Americans did. He drew a high number, somewhere's around 317 and was not drafted.

He then went on to continue his studies; like a patriotic Aemrican. Cheney was a draft dodger. He arrogantly stated one time that he had more important things to do than serve his country. That is why he and his former box, President George W. Bush, another Vietnam War evader are now bunkered down in heavily fortified homes; heavily guarded by numerous Secret Service agents while Clinton openly moves about appearing on TV.
