The others were part time. The officers for the department were; Bob Palmer was chief, Nelson Palmer was appointed as the lieutenant, and Tom Best was sergeant. The Village of Blasdell's first police department was created in 1898 when the village was first incorporated. At that time, William Cook was appointed as the village's first police officer. However, it wasn't until the turn of the century that former clerk, Henri de Verneuil was named as the village peace justice and at the same time assumed the job as chief of police.

Warnick remained as chief until 1935 when Fred Roth 4 w- 0' In the next 100 years, several well known village residents would follow in de Verneuil's foot steps. The first of these was Ira Dunmire who replaced. De Verneuil as village justice in 0 was appointed to the position.

Both men were well known in the village as stern, no nonsense police administrators. After stepping down in 1947, Roth briefly served as the village peace justice before he passed away in 1950. When Roth stepped down as police chief and was then appointed as the village justice, Dean Salisbury became the village chief of police. He served until 1964 before stepping down from the job. It was at that time that the village board appointed Ken Robertson as interim chief, and then in April 1965 they appointed Robert Palmer as the permanent department head.

Palmer, who started as a patrol officer in 1951, would go on to serve the village for the next 36 years, 22 as chief He retired from the position in 1987. During his tenure as chief, the department was awarded the American Automobile Association's Pedestrian Safety Award, and also had the distinction of being honored with the J. In 1989, the Blasdell Village Board, in a cost cutting move, dissolved the police department and contracted with the Erie County Sheriffs Department to provide protection for the village. Today the village has a police force of part time officers, and in the last 10 years had several men serve as it's chief. Tom Best, former Blasdell village patrol officer and Town of Hamburg detective, headed the part -ime department for several years before becoming a member of the Hamburg Town Board.
