Korol adopted Hector after he was found frozen to the ground near La Loche and had to have his hind legs and part of his tail amputated. He has been fitted with two prosthetic legs. RACHEL PSUTKA LEADER-POST For one Regina dog, enjoying the finer things in life like lifting his leg on an outdoor romp, burying his head in a snowbank, or tearing through the house is a newfound joy thanks to a shiny new set of prosthetic legs. Hector, a nearly two-year-old border collie-shepherd mix, had a rough start to life. Born to a stray in La Loche on a frigid January day in 2013, his hind legs and tail froze to the ground. They were amputated, and since then Hector has perfected a balancing act of walking only on his front legs. If people tell you a dog with two legs cant run away from you, theyre wrong, owner Lisa Korol said with a laugh. Korol had sworn off ever having a dog again after her 13-year-old lab-Rottweiler cross passed away But within six months, she adopted Hector from Prairie Sky Dog Rescue, knowing the then-six-month-old puppy would have a few special needs. Him having no back feet wasnt an issue because hes just like any other dog, Korol said.
