December 24,1936 September 18,2012 Regina lost a special carpenter September 18, 2012 at the age of 75 years with his loving family by his side. Born December 24, 1936 in Coreglia, Antelminelli, ITALY, he travelled to Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 18 years. A strong European work ethic and unwavering commitment to quality craftsmanship resulted in a successful construction career and the formation of Carani Homes LTD. His company built many homes over the years throughout Regina and surrounding area ultimately specializing in window and door installations.

His love and passion for work continued right up until his cancer diagnosis. Dad's resiliency and love for his family was evident via his incredible perseverance and strength in what he endured to give us more precious time with him. He was predeceased by his parents Pacifico and Santina Carani, his sister Eva Palandri and brothers-in-law Aldo Palandri and Beppe Barsanti. Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Giovannina, children Lorenzo (Susan) and Loredana (Trevor Krauchek), his grandchildren Luca, Chiara, Bishop and Jett, his sisters Pia (Ido) Fiori, Eni Carani, brother Silvano (Diva) Carani along with numerous family members and friends. It takes a village to care for the sick; a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in dad's care especially Dr. Chalchal, Dr. Amjed, Dr. "Theresa" Bradel and John RN at the Allan Blair Cancer Center. The funeral service will be held in the Kakisiwew School Gymnasium, Ochapowace First Nation, on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Sam Isaac, Pastor Brig Judy, and Nick Hellewell officiating. Irene survived by her daughters, Betty Ann (Dick) Schiefner and Paulette Hubbs (Stan) Slopek; grandchildren, Ed Schiefner, Stacy (Blake) Brownridge, Jessica Slopek; greatgrandchildren, Olivia and Tyson Brownridge. She is lovingly remembered by sister, Bernice (Doug) Stagg; sisters-inlaw, Ina Hanley, Betty Hanley; brother-inlaw, William 1 Samchuk; dear niece, Bev Siebert; as well as many special nephews, nieces and close relatives. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Jim; parents, Bill and Gladys Hanley; sisters, Maxine Thomas and Kae Samchuk; brothers, Eugene, Garvin and Ken Hanley. Born near Corinne, Irene spent most of her life on the Hubbs family farm west of Milestone. Throughout her life, she took an active interest in farming.

She excelled at gardening, sewing, and baking. An active supporter of community life, Irene served on the boards of Assisted Living, the Milestone Co-op and was a proud member of the Prairie Circle Club. During their 55 years together, Irene and Jim travelled extensively on five continents. In her later years, Irene's most cherished moments were when she was surrounded by her family and friends. A Celebration of Irene's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m.

PARAGON 359-7776 FUNERAL CREMATION SERVICES GERALD FITZ-GERALD March 6,1924 September 14, 2012 It is with sadness the family of Gerald Fitz-Gerald (Gerry) announces his passing at Grace Hospice in Regina on Friday, September 14, 2012. Gerry was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan on March 6, 1924 to Maurice and Marjory Fitz-Gerald. He was home schooled by his parents until Grade 10 and then attended Grenfell High School until graduation.

In 1942, Gerry began attending classes at the of but shortly after felt it was his duty to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. When the war ended, he returned to classes and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a degree in Science and Agriculture. He worked as an Ag Rep for several years and then for Cominco (Elephant Brand Fertilizer) before returning to the family farm near Grenfell in 1963. On June 4, 1949, Gerry and Margaret MacKay (Peggy) were married in Saskatoon and spent just over 63 years together. Over those years, they raised a large family, operated the family farm and Gerry took a hand at teaching Agriculture for a number of years in Yorkton.

Gerry worked hard at whatever he tried his hand at and counted a lot of money over the years as treasurer for St. Michael's Church, the Grenfell Legion, the Grenfell Athletic Association and the Pipestone Beavers Junior hockey team. Gerry was an avid football fan and in fact played for the of Huskies for 2 years. He had a passion for hockey as well, playing until he was almost 60 years old and spent countless hours coaching his 4 sons' teams and attending as many of their games as possible. When the children left home and Gerry and Peggy were semi-retired and later retired, they became "snowbirds" for a number of years, enjoying the warmth of Phoenix and relaxing with friends.

In 1999, they took a long anticipated trip to the U.K. and Ireland with their son Maurice. Gerry loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren so there were many trips to the coast, to cottages at various lakes or wherever one of them happened to be living at the time. Gerry was predeceased by his parents and his beloved granddaughter Shannon Fitz-Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his 6 children: Mary and Ken, Brian and Heather, Maurice and Fiona, John and Wendy, Sheila, James and Barbara as well as 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sheila Beaton and Oonagh Macdonald, many nieces and nephews and dear General friends. SPEERS 522-3232 LINNEN, Arthur William April 17,1925 September 19,2012 Arthur passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012. He was 17, 1925 and raised on the family farm south west of Francis, SK.

Arthur is predeceased by his parents Archie and Mabel Linnen; his brother Lorne, sister-in-law Pat; brother Roy, sister-in-law Jean; his nephew Wayne; and his very special friend Georgina (Nellie) Farquharson. He will be sadly missed by his niece Charlene Hardy and family of Port Coquitlam, BC and his nephew Jim Linnen and family of Kamloops, BC and numerous cousins and friends. Arthur took over the family farm in 1969 and continued farming until his retirement in 2011. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball in summer and curling in the winter. Arthur also enjoyed playing cribbage and canasta and visiting at any time of the year.

Later in life he took several fishing trips which he enjoyed and also the odd casino trip to Reno. Arthur was a member of the United Church in Francis and also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge in Francis and then in Weyburn. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Home, Hwy East, Regina, Saskatchewan, on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Regina Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. By his side was his nephew and niece, Gerald and Darlene Metz. Eugene was born at Dilke, SK.

He is predeceased by his parents, Philip and Anna Selinger; wife, Margaret; brothers, George (Emma), Leo, Michael, Wilfred and Edward. Eugene is survived his brothers and sisters, Peggy Nattress, Anton (Florence) Selinger, Frank (Jean) Selinger, Philip (Della) Selinger, Barbara (Tony) Sander, Anna (Zennith) Iwaskow and several nieces and nephews. He resided and farmed in the Dilke District until he moved to the Queen Victoria Estates, Regina, SK, on October 27, 2010. He spent his last four months as a resident at the Elmview Extendicare, Regina, SK. travelled Eugene and his deceased wife, Margaret, extensively and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He was a long time member of the St. Boniface Church. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Kathryn (George) Miller of Moose Jaw; son, Ian (Joanne) Playfair of Calgary; and grandchildren, George Miller (fiancee Liz) of Toronto and Sarah Miller of Regina. She is also survived by her sister, Karen (Eugene) Kitchen of Lake Katepwa, brother-in-law, Bruce Jones of Riceton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert "Bob" Playfair (August 25, 2004), her parents, Reverend John and Rose Dunnett and her sister, Deena Jones.

Joan was born in Brandon, Manitoba. The eldest of three girls, Joan moved numerous times as a minister's daughter and would meet her husband, Bob, in Cupar, SK. Prior to their marriage in 1955, Joan was an X-ray technician. After living in Estevan and Regina the family settled in Saskatoon. Joan was known for her homemaking skills, beautiful garden and dedication to family.

During retirement Joan and Bob travelled extensively. When not packing a suitcase for a trip, they enjoyed square dancing, the trailer club and activities at Bethel United Church. Joan loved reading and was a volunteer with the mobile library at the Royal University Hospital. She was an avid piano player with an uncanny talent for sightreading. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, notably her grandchildren who fondly remember summer vacations in Saskatoon.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at Extendicare, Moose Jaw and Dr. V. Rininsland for his compassionate care. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Joan's wishes a private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery in Saskatoon. Alec served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He spent many years traveling as a salesman for Farm Light and Power. He enjoyed his cottage at Regina Beach, traveling to the coast, watching his grandchildren at baseball and hockey games and dance recitals. NATALIE SLAGER Natalie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September at the age of 84. Natalie and Don met and married in Yellowknife, NWT, living there seven years before moving to Regina in 1957. She loved sports, especially baseball and curling. Natalie and Don spent many years enjoying spring training, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Anaheim Angels. She volunteered at the Pasqua Hospital and was active in the United Church and UCW for many years. Most important for Natalie was her faith in God and her obedience to Gods' Commandments to "Love and Serve Others" as if she were serving the Lord herself.

She will be remembered for her kindness, warm smiles, bubbly enthusiasm, love of family gatherings, and baking: especially her cinnamon buns.
