"We're hoping to get engines from the turn of century right through to 1945 when electricity became quite popular. As far as tractors and parts, most of them will probably be from early 20s through to the 1950s," he says. Eggen, who is also organizing the event, says hopes are to have more than 100 exhibitors.

"We'd like people to bring along engines, tractors or parts and hope that they will maybe want to do a little bit of trading, too." The show will be held on the North Dakota State Fair grounds in the southwest corner at the museum grounds. "We'll be using these grounds plus some of the adjoining grounds. It's time for the first annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show Sale and Swap Meet, taking place in Minot June 1, 2, and 3. "We've been talking about doing this for several years. Minot is an excellent place to do this it will be the real true international engine and tractor show and swap meet because of our location between the U.S.

and Canada," says Gene Eggen, president of the Ward County Historical Society, the sponsor of the event. "People have shown an interest from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana and North Dakota." The yellow brick road isn't the only place to see these animals you'll also find them at the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot! "The zoo has about 200 animals in total," says Nancy Hanson, activities and marketing co-ordinator with the Roosevelt Park Zoo. "We have the most exotic animals in North Dakota, like penguins, giraffes, zebras, lions, tigers, snow leopards and bears." The zoo also has North American animals that are common to the state's countryside, such as white-tailed deer, bison, elk, and wolves. "We also have a petting zoo with different farm animals," she adds. The zoo recently added snakes to its inventory of creatures.

"We have a boa constrictor, python, and different kinds of lizards. There are also iguanas, tegus, a plated lizard, and we're getting frilled dragons. It's kind of fun for the kids to go in there they like those creepy, crawly things!" Roosevelt Park Zoo was founded in the early 1900s. One of the original buildings now houses an education centre, gift shop and also houses some of the reptile displays. The zoo covers an area of almost 20 acres.

Visiting the different pens and walking along the pathways on a self-guided tour takes about an hour-and-a-half on average, but visitors are welcome to take as much time as they like. A small concession stand is located within the zoo. Next to the zoo is a large park that has a swimming pool and waterslide. "A lot of families come through the zoo and then go to the park to enjoy a picnic lunch," notes Hanson. The zoo is open from May to September and is closed in the winter.

Hours from May to August are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily; in September, hours are 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Admission prices are: ages five and under: free ages 6-12 $2US 13 and older $4.50 US "It's a great way to spend as much time as you like with spending a little amount of money," states Hanson.
