Kindness, generosity and care for others were personified over the years in the life of Minnie, who died unexpectedly and peacefully in the Pasqua Hospital on Sunday morning, October 3, 2004, at the age of 73. Minnie's parents Steve William Potapchuk from Poland and Frances (nee Zimmerman) Potapchuk from Austria died in 1955 and 1958 respectively. Her sister Eileen Manning predeceased her on July 20th this year. Minnie is survived by her loving husband George, brother Tom Potapchuk of Regina, sisters Lillian Pinsent at the Atlantic coast and Marie Gailing at the Pacific, aunt Adeline Zimmerman in Regina and an extended family of relatives and friends.

As an active board member of the Calgary SPCA in its earlier developmental period; as a provider of nourishing food for street children in the downtown core; as a volunteer 'chef' who VAN DER VELDEN Jannetie (Jenny) passed away suddenly on Monday, October 4, 2004, at the age of 72. Jenny is predeceased bv her parents and brothers Wlm and Dick. Jenny was born in Klaaswaal, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1960. She was a very kind hearted and generous person, always ready to help family and friends at a moment's notice.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts, visits out to the lake and occasional trips to the spa. Over the past several years she enjoyed annual trips to Holland to visit family and friends and to travel throughout Europe. Arthur was born at Maymont, Saskatchewan. He farmed for many years with his father and brother Jim. In 1969 Arthur and Emma moved to Regina where they resided with their daughter Ruth (Ron) for 22 years. During this time Arthur worked for the Regina Inn and the YMCA.

Arthur later took up residency at Qu'Appelle House to be closer to his wife. He loved the home cooked meals, the special activities, new friends and the kindness shown to him by the caring staff. The family would like to thank the staff for making his time there so special. Arthur was extremely active until May 2004. He enjoyed bowling and golfing.

He was also known as Art with the Cart1. Family and friends were most important. He rode the bus each day to the Northgate Mall for morning coffee and to visit. He knew the bus drivers by name and appreciated their kindness and concern for him. Arthur was a longtime member of Zion United Church.

Debbie ioined Breast Cancer Action Saskatechewan wanting to try help make a difference in someone else's life. She took care of the news letter in which she wrote a beautiful article with her struggle with breast cancer.

Unfortunately, Debbie was unable to fulfill her position, for again she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Nov. '03. Again Debbie was determined to fight. Once again she overcame the intensive chemo treatments and went into remission in Jan. 04.

In order to stay in remission, a bone marrow transplant was done July 27 '04. She fought and fought hard. On Sept. 27 '04 she went home to her maker. Her iourney in this life had ended.

Debbie has touched so many lives in so many ways that she will never be forgotten. We would like to give special thanks to the Allan Blair Cancer Center, friends of 3B in Regina the Tom Baker Cancer Center in the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. 1 'X CLOSE, RETA (NEE JOHNSTON) AUGUST 16, 1920 September 3, 2004 My mother loved life. And it loved her back. Over the course of 84 years she was an independent, strong woman who success-fully balanced family life with a family I business. During her marriage to my father, Ronald Close, she did the accounting for the family hotel business. Somehow she managed to find time to ride horseback, fly planes, drive motorcycles, travel around the world, play with her dog, dance and sing.

She explained to me once that it was important to work eight hours, rest eight hours and play eight hours, although my son, Caleb says during the times he spent with her it was difficult not to play for the entire twenty-four. Another strong woman, my grandmother, Emily Mary Johnston, raised six children, my mother was the youngest. She had lost her father at an early age, the first of many challenges in her life. She learned quickly to count her blessings and meet obstacles without complaint. In this she was an Inspiration to those around her.

Music was a significant part of my mother's life, in particular lazz and swing of the big bands. Mom knew the words to all the songs and had a song for every day. The stereo in our household ran overtime. Her record collection featured Bing Crosby and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass as well as classical music. But she was particular in her choices, piano music had to be Liszt not Chopin.

My mother loved life and knew how to celebrate the little things. She knew the pleasure of taking a boat out into the middle of Jackfish Lake lust to have breakfast while watching the sun coming up. My mother loved life and most of all she loved her family. My father, Ronald and my brother, Patrick and I were fortunate to be part of a loving family. As our family circle grew larger, she delighted In her three grandchildren: Tara, Erin and Caleb.

At the heart of everything was her sense of humor; she could find a laugh in even the most difficult circumstances. Despite a long illness, she never complained and always encouraged us to make the most of our opportunities. She raised my brother and I to believe in ourselves and have the courage of our convictions. She often quoted poetry to us and a favorite was Kipling's If. She believed In the Importance of the arts and encouraged us to pursue our own careers.

My father says, simply but wisely, that she was a lady. Her smile was radiant and she shared it with the world. In the Regina Lutheran Home where she lived for the last two years, she was known for her smile. Her room was a haven for visitors and caregivers alike who would stop by to listen to the music and see her collection of horses. My mother loved life and she loved people.

She never turned anyone away from our door and there was always a chocolate cake In the freezer lust In case. Countless times, we would come home and find friends and family In the kitchen with Mom having coffee. My brother, Patrick observed recently that the pralrli skies have been particularly beautiful since Mom's death. I know that she would like this. My molher always said that there should be no sadness when she departed.
