BETA SIGMA PHI GIVES PREFERENTIAL TEA A preferential tea, attended by 25 members and guests, was held by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Mary Colmerauer, South Park avenue.

Tea was served from a table attractively decorated with fall flowers and candles, at which Mrs. Isobel Gardner, sponsor of the sorority, presided Guests included Miss Carla Hilty, Miss Carol Keneske, Mrs. Marie Ste vens and Mrs. Eleanor Whitmer. Mrs.

Jewett Rotary Clubs, wiu entertain at a reception for the faculty members of the Kane Area Joint schools this evening at 8 o' clock at the High school gymnasium. Following a brief period or group singing, while the crowd assembles, Ansel Nelson, president of the Jointure board, will welcome the guests. Victor Westerberg will act as Master of Ceremonies. The program will open with an act by the Texas Tumbleweeds of Pittsburgh, presented by four teen nap bovs who have been in ereat demand on the stage and over the radio. Miss Elizabeth Ann Gibson of Punxsutawney, who spent A year in France as an exchange student, sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of this area, will George Johnson, of Warren, will eive a mono logue, interspersed with piano selec tions.

After the program, refreshments will be served under the supervision of Mrs. Nina Bradley. An attend ance of approximately 240 persons is anticipated. Miss Eckman Attends State Conference One hundred fifty education lead ers from every part of Pennsylvania convened at State College for a two day conference over the weekend, to advance professional standards in the Commonwealth. Sponsored by the Commission on Teacher Education and Professional Standards headed by Dr.

Earl F. Sykes of West Chester, the meet ing directed its efforts toward the theme "Competent Teachers for Pennsylvania Schools." Nationally known speakers who addressed the professional leaders ot this statewide gathering included Dr. Milton Eisenhower, President, Pennsylvania State University State College; Dr. T. M.

Stinnett, staff member of the National Ed ucation Association, Washington Mrs. Mary Lou Pfeiffer, Director, Women's Activities, Station WRFD, Worthington, Ohio; Dr. Harvey Cayman, Executive Secretary, Penn sylvan ia State Education Association, Harrisburg; and W. Earl Arm strong, National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education Washington, D. C.

This locality was represented at the conference by Miss Rosana Eck man, teacher in Kane Area Joint High School. In addition to the general ses sions of the conference and several luncheon and dinner meetings, there were five discussion groups which met separately to grapple with such professional problems as selection of candidates for the pro fession, holding competent teaching personnel in the profession, public understanding of school issues, and perfecting professional organiza tion. Wherl. dean of Gannon College, of Erie. Miss Fleming installed the new officers and Mrs. Dougherty spoke on' activity in Parochial and Civic affairs. Miss Maher talked on highlights of the national convention which wus held this Summer at Minnea polis, Minn, and encouraged sup port of the World Mission pro' gram.

Miss Maher left by plane for Great Falls, to preside at a state leadership conference and today is scheduled to go to LewlB ton. Idaho to attend first conven tion of nine courts in that state. Jewett Firemen To Sponsor Play The Volunteer Fire Dept. of Mt. Jewett are sponsoring a comedy show "Funnybone Follies." The show features an all local cast with manv prominent citizens taking Dart.

Many children of the community will also take part in the show, also dancers, singers and variety acts. The show will be staged Nov. 3 and 4, at the Palace Theatre. Miss Pat Bishop of Kansas City, is direct ing the show. The show is to help the firemen purchase a new fire truck.

Final Rites Held For Mrs. Loeffler Last rites were held from St. Callistus church at 10:30 a. m. Saturday for Mrs.

Josephine Loeffler, of James City, who succumbed October 20. The Rev. Mark Roueche, assistant pastor of St. Callistus church, officiated at requiem high mass with responses sung by the children's choir. Serving as pallbearers were Louis Zarnick, Louis Popielski, Percy Rudolph, Joseph Haulick Walter Mague and Stanley Debevec.

this morning began construction of a large addition to the plant at John sonburg. The three story structure will occupy a frontage of 50 feet on Market street and will be 74 feet in depth and will match the present brick building in appear ance. The Stackpole concern was the successful bidder on the tract of land recently put up for sale by the borough. The will of the late Associate Jus tice of the Supreme Court Robert H. Jackson was filed late Thursday at the Fairfax county court house, Fairfax, Va.

Bulk of the estate of about $300,000 was left in trust for life to his widow, Mrs. Irene Cer hardt Jackson. Upon her death, the remainder goes in equal shares to the Jackson children, William E. Jackson, New York City; and Mrs. Mary Jackson Craighill, McLean, Va.

The estate included the Jackson home in McLean, Hickory Hill, valued at $75,000, plus $230,000 in securities and other personal property. Not reported was life in surance and property which was jointly held. PEARL 1 CAKTWRIGHT INJURED Miss Pearl Cartwright, twelve year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cartwright, R.D.

1, sustained a fracture of the left ankle while playing in the yard of her home Friday afternoon. The injury occurred when she turned her ankle while running and jumping. She brought to Kane Summit hospital for medical attention.
