The 70 year old creator of Maggie and Jiggs in "Kinging Up Father" was admitted to St. John's hospital in nearby Santa Monica early Friday. He died of a heart attack, his physician reported. McManus and his invalid widow, Florence, resided in Beverly Hills for 25 years after the affable Irish man left New York where his car toons brought him international recognition. Born in St.

Louis, in 1884, McManus went to work as a floor sweeper in the old St. Louis Re publican's art department after a school teacher objected to his classroom doodling.
