With crowd estimated at 23,000 on hand, the preliminaries in the Scrantonian Newton Lake Beauty Pageant were held this afternoon at the lake resort.

The judges chose twenty five girls from the fifty seven present to com pete in the semi finals. Judges of the contest were: Dr. M. M. Rosenberg, Scranton; Dr.

William Scranton, and John Roberts, a representative of the Comer ford Amusement Company.
