Galaxy Cinemas at the Normanview Shopping Centre has all the bells and whistles of the countrys best new cinema complexes and promises to turn going to the movies into a very special event in this region. There has been a revolution in cinema design in the past five years and it has changed the way North Americans are going to the movies.

Canadian movie ticket sales in Canada's largest ciues have increased more than 20 per cent a year for the past three years and it is the new cinema megaplexes that are driving the growth. People are flocking in huge numbers to new high-tech cinemas while attendance at old traditional movie houses is falling fast. Movie studios routinely spend $100 million or more to create special effects blockbusters like The Matrix Reloaded, Lord of the Rings, and Spider-Man. To really appreciate these movies you have to lose yourself suspend your disbelief Well you can lose yourself at Galaxy. Well you can lose yourself at Galaxy. The screens are HUGE. Some are almost 60 feet wide and 30 feet high. All of the ten auditoriums feature stadium seating and this is the design innovation that really strikes you the most. With stadium seadng, every row of seats is 18" higher than the row in front.

This means you can see all the action on the screen no matter how tall the person is in front of you. Combine stadium seatings great sightlines with wall-to-wall curved screens and you cant see anything but the movie. "THATS WHEN THE ESCAPE CAN BEGIN." Galaxys chairs are really comfortable. The seat itself is wide (is that because baby boomers are wide in the The high backs, cup holder armrests, lumbar support and generous legroom (49" between each row) all make for fabulous seat comfort. You cant escape if youre squirming.

Then theres the sound. All ten Galaxy auditoriums feature Dolby Digital Surround Sound. And each is equipped with eighteen JBL professional speakers and three giant sub-woofers behind the screen. These sound systems deliver the kind of technical excellence needed to achieve perfect reproduction of digital sound. In Galaxy theatres you hear the movie George Lucas means you to hear.

The sound is subtle when it wants to be subtle but when those meteors strike you might feel your teeth rattle. Projection systems at Galaxy are top-of-the line and they are also innovative. Ten Kinoton projectors sit like robots in the spotless mezzanine projection booth. These are the latest model from a German manufacturer renowned for technical excellence. The lamps are up to four thousand watts.

The picture is bright. And the chassis of each system is solid. There is no shimmy on Galaxys screens. Auditorium one with 355 seats has an additional feature to ensure that Regina audiences will be swept away. A digital projector that receives satellite signals from a rooftop dish means that Galaxy will play more than just movies.

The first big digital event will be a live concert in July featuring Canada's most popular female musical artist. Concert action on a sixty foot screen in the comfort of a luxurious armchair? I cant stand it! Wheres the mosh pit? On your way to the movies at Galaxy you'll pass a platoon of robotic ATMs (automated ticket machines). These will allow ticket purchase without lining up and even while youre on the way to work or school in the morning. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.
