Her passion helped her become one of the youngest graduates from Torontos Royal Conservatory of Music and have led to many honors.

The environmental winner, David Grassby, began working for the environment when he read that a favorite pond was in danger of becoming biologically dead. The pond was where I had learned how to skate and it meant a lot to me. When I read that it was in trouble, I was really concerned, he explained. I thought, heres one way I can contribute to a larger global problem. Along with helping the environment, Grassby also learned a valuable lesson that can help him in future endeavors.

I learned that trying to get things done and make things happen is a very slow process, he says. You have to be patient, and I guess persistence is what pays off. YTV is honoring the best in performing arts, sports, and contributions to society and the environment and the recipients are all under 20. Canadian youth who have made outstanding achievements are recognized in the seventh annual YTV Achievement Awards, airing Sunday, April 28, on Cable Channel 21 in Regina. It is an honor to be a Canadian and to receive an award like this, says pianist Sonia Chan, this years winner in the instrumental category.

YTV has such an impact on our generation and I think theyre doing a great job in encouraging the success and the potentials that our generation has and will have. I think thats really important Each year, judges evaluate nominations in 15 categories and decide on the young person who best exemplifies the principles of that area. The categories include bravery, environment, dance, sports, instrumental and acting. The winners receive a statue, a trip to Toronto and $3,000. Also, they are recognized in a televised ceremony, featuring well-known hosts and guest performers.

This years hosts include Larisa Oleynik (The Secret World of Alex Mack) and other familiar YTV faces, including Phil Guerrero (The Zone) and Paul McGuire (The Breakfast Zone). The winners this year range.
