fioT'Istrtl TOj No. 4 Northern 44 4 DALHOUSIE ORE BODY WIDENING New Vein Shows Over Five Feet in Drift VICTORIA, July 9. The latest report received from the Tidewater molybdenum property at Alice Ann by the directors of the Dalhousie Mining Co. Ltd. states that twenty-two feet has been drifted on the new vein encountered about a week age.

This vein is steadily widening from 24 feet, when first cut, to the full face of the drift, showing now over five feet of good ore. Angus McLeod, superintendent at the property, reports that he Is taking on extra men to attend to the storage af the ore coming from this drift. It also appears that the grade of ore In the new workings is better than the surface showings at that point and improves as the drift on the low-level approaches the vicinity of the old workings where high-grade ore was found. Vancouver will be open to public inspection on Sunday, July 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. Ui inenu.reecv BEARS DEFEATED Commodity Price Cuts Influence Retailers And Cost of Living Br CLAUDE A. AGGER Aaoeiated Preu Financial Writer NEW YORK. June 10 Bearish efforts In the trading accomplished and before midday traders shifted to the constructive side.

Most pivotal shares recorded moderate gains. The rails gave the best account of themselves, reflecting good yields from the prime dividend payers. Chicago Great Western estimates that earnings Till be increased about II per preferred share. The S. Steel unfilled tonnage report showed a reduction during June of only 91.163 tons, which was about In keeping with expectations.

New evidence that the drop in wholesale commodity prices Is beginning to influence retail prices and the cost of living appeared in announcements of sharp price reductions by Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. Labor Bureau Inc. reported wage decreases in excess of decreases of June, but reduction of retail prices may be a compensating factor. On the whole the day's news was about a stand off, with little market influence. The bear activity In the morning closely coincided with the announcement of the suspension by the exchange of the firm of Sutro It Company because of the alleged connection of one of its customers with the Manhattan Electrical Supply pooL Air Reduction.

Johns Manville and National Cash Register dropped to points to new lows, then rallied. In the rails, Atchison, New York Central, New Haven and others gained 2 points or more. U. 8. Steel firmed up on tonnage report, gaining nearly 2 points.

In the oils. Standard of New Jersey made a similar advance. Allied Chemical converted an early loss of 5 points into a gain of similar extent, and Eastman Kodak sold up about as much. Credit conditions were generally unchanged. STRONG AT CLOSE Readjustment of speclative accounts coincided with reports thaat active market traders were again ranging on the long side.

Buying orders for 5,000 and 10,000 shares were more frequeent in the popular issues and many of the seasoned rails and industrials sold from 3 to 8 points higher. Air Reduction converted a five-point decline into a gain of more than 6. The close was strong, sales approximated 2,100,00 shares. Call money renewed at -'a per cent.
