Driver in Auto Fatality Jailed Dickson City Man Gets Year for Death of Boy A sentence of one year In County Jail was Imposed upon Stan ley Becklsh, 21, 354 Main Street, Dickson City, Saturday by Judge William R. Lewis. Becklsh was convicted of Involuntary manslaughter. A car he was driving struck and fatauy injured Theodore Mlsuk, 12, In Dickson City on December 23. Beckish, according to Dickson City police, was driving while Intoxicated when the accident occurred.

James Sweeney, 30, Newfoundland, also was sentenced by Judge lewis to thirty days in the County Jail for driving while intoxicated. He will be released in fifteen days upon payment of costs. A three months' jail sentence imposed upon John Cooper, 3 Company Street, was suspended upon payment of costs. Cooper pleaded guilty to charge of fraudulent conversion. He accepted a violin for the purpose of repairing it and failed to return lk Three Month Term for Ace John Ace, 817 West Lackawanna Avenue, was sentenced to three months in the County Jail on a charge of stealing household furnishings valued at $33 from Gus Walllan, 800 Adams Avenue.

Court Issued a capias for Michael 1 Mercovitch, Old Forge, who failed to appear for sentence on a charge of Involuntary manslaughter. Mercovitch was convicted by a Jury earlier in the week. An automobile he was driving fatally injured John Herno, 3, Taylor, on October 29. Sentences Deferred Sentence was deferred or suspended on the following other defendants ar raigned before court Saturday. I Leona Damorlvlk, 212 Lawrenc Street, Arch bald, charged with possessing liquor not officially sealed.

Peter G. Seigle, 1305 Clay Avenue, Dunmore, charged with receiving stolen goods. Edward Karwosky, this city; PTank Guslnski and Edward Pursinskl. Mooslc, charged with stealing ccial. Benjamin Santora, Old Fibrge, charged with fraudulent convorsion and Issuing bad checks.

Anti War League Unit Formed Here Delegates Report on Re cent Conference A permanent chapter of the Amer lean League Against War and Fascism was organized at a meeting Saturday night at Elm Park M. E. Church. Three delegates who attended the re cent congress of the league in Cleve land reported at the meeting.

The Rev. Dr. Henry H. Crane, pastor of the church, received the ten point program as ratified by the league In Cleveland. He said that he could see no objection to organizing a branch in this city and that anybody opposed to such a program is un American and un democratic.

Those who reported at the meeting were: the Rev. Gordon Kibler, Dr. Max Arzt and Lester Polakoff. The congress opposes manufacture and transportation of monitions; demands total andi universal disarmament to oppose extensive war prepara tions by the federal government; op poses all developments leading to fascism; opposes attempts to destroy civil rights and free speech, free press and free assembly; resists increasing militarization of youths in school and demands that neutrality cover loans and credit. Education Teachers Arrange Conference 'Teachers under the WPA adult education and recreation programs in Lackawanna County will hold an ail day institute tomorrow.

The sessions will begin at 9 o'clock at the Y. W. C. A. William P.

Coal Concern Asks Judgment on Note The Suffolk Ooal Company filed a petition in Federal Court on Saturday asking for a declaratory judgment against MaJ. John A. Hart, receiver of the Union National Bank, in an issue involving a $10,000 note. Judge Albert L.

Watson granted a rule, returnable at 2 o'clock on Febru ary 24, to show cause why judgmeut should not be given. The petition states the coal company owed $10,000 on a note due October 7, 1935. The company gave the Union National Bank a check for a balance of $9,767.14 on deposit In the institution, in addition to another check for $232.86. Acceptance of payment in this manner was refused. No Interest was paid from that date until now.

The coal concern, of which W. Jermyn is president, asks the judgment cancelling the note and also seeks to restrain Receiver Hart from starting action to collect under it. Ralph W.
