TALVE, Harri June 21, 1930 January 5, .2010 Harri passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Herta, and by his daughter, Merike.

He will be remembered fondly Henry, daughter in law Pennie, his grandchildren Riia, Matthew and Carly, his sisters Linda and Lydia, friends, relatives and his good friend Anne. Harri was born in Parnu, Estonia but because of the war, his family was forced to flee when he was only 13. Their destination of Sweden was never reached and the family was put into a work camp where they remained for about a year. An opportunity arose and they fled once again, but this time to Denmark where Harri spent his teenage years. He moved to Canada at the age of 20 where he met and married Marie.

They moved to Richmond and there they raised their children. He was a clever man from a clever family. Two of his cousins were doctors, one was an architect in New York a and one was an electronics who worked for NASA on the Apollo missions. Because of the war and his circumstances, he was not able to pursue an academic career, but he still made the best of it. He was a refrigeration technician, inventor, fisherman.

Fusako is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years Shoji, 2 daughters Alisa (Murray), Jennifer (Eric) and two beautiful granddaughters, Sophie and Megumi. Fusako was born June 24. 1928 in Osaka. Japan to Koto and Genjiro Yoshida. Her family was truly blessed to have such a devoted, caring, and wise woman to guide their way through life.

We feel a tremendous loss but are so grateful that she was part of our lives. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16th at the Vancouver Japanese United Church, 4010 Victoria Drive, Vancouver BC at In lieu of flowers and Koden, donations may be made in Fusako's memory to The Vancouver Japanese United Church (www.vjuc.org). -300106 THOMAS, Reginald Walter November 22, 1933 November 12,2009 After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Reg finally got the call to join the big football game in the sky. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Carole, daughters Gail (Mike) and Ellen, and the twinkle in his eye, his grandchildren, Leah, Scott and Alanna. Born in Manchester, England, Reg came to Canada in 1947 and graduated from Kitsilano High School in 1951.

He built a home and moved Sechelt in 1966 where he lived until his final day. Thanks staff at St. Mary's Hospital, especially Dr. Brian Myhill-Jones and Dr. Sara Wadge.

Joe was born in Vancouver, in his teens learned timber cruising with his father, cruising the Queen Charlotte Islands for the Powell River Timber Company. His love of the woods then brought him to Vancouver where he worked for Government Forestry, and then onto the Sunshine Coast as a Government scaler, where he spent past 40 years, first in Roberts Creek, and then most recently to his home in Davis Bay. Joe always loved being with his family, fishing the ocean and the lakes of the interior, and traveling the world. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty, daughters Colleen Jennifer (Brent), sons Terry and Fred (Laurie), grandchildren Callahan, Taylor, Katina, Tania, Jerrod. and four great grandchildren.

Iris left us sudden, but peacefully on Sunday January 3, 2010 at Royal Columbian Hospital. Survived by her 2 sons, Leigh (Cheri). Also survived by step-daughter Linda (Syd and family), brother Donald, sister Lois and Leona, many nieces, nephews and extended family. Iris was a member of a number of organizations and was welcomed and loved by all. Always patient and generous, opened her heart and home to her entire family and all those surrounding. She will be greatly and sadly missed. An open house in celebration of Iris' life will be held at Wilson Center (Port Coq.

Predeceased by his father George Sharp Willoughby and mother Elizabeth Willoughby, he is survived by sisters Alison Willoughby (Bruce Maitland) and Becky Willis (Ned), his brother Mark Willoughby (Valerie Mumford), nephew David Willoughby and niece Kim Willoughby. Patrick earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree Honours French from University of Victoria and a Masters Degree in Library Science from University of British Columbia. Patrick enjoyed working at the UBC Library where he was a reference librarian and managed the government publications collection.

He was a talented and accomplished guitarist, classical pianist and pipe organist. He also enjoyed cinema, literature, poetry, theatre, travel and photography and could often be found enjoying the life somewhere in the West End. He will be fondly remembered for his sharp intellect, clever wit and his gentle manner. His courage in the face of an unrelenting illness will not be forgotten. WONG, Fung Kim (nee MUI) Laura passed away on December 16.

2009. Predeceased by her Father Glen. She will be sadly missed by her Mother Louise, Brothers Warren, Mark and all of her other friends and family. Laura lived her life helping others. She worked for the British Columbia Paraplegic Association for twenty years.

Laura was a constant volunteer assisting the physically challenged and helping to run charity events with the B.C.P.A. Laura loved life and treated others with respect, kindness and dignity. Her love for children will be especially missed by the many nieces and nephews who adored her. She had a spirituality that shone through her sparkling eyes and laughter. We have been forever blessed by her beautiful existence.

Having developed an early passion for all things French and for food and wine in particular, he had the great good fortune to work with wine most of his life.

He enjoyed 22 years as Professor of Wine Studies at the Culinary Institute of America. He authored "The Sommelier's Guide to Wine' and co- "Exploring. Wine" and "Wine Wise:" the last received the James Beard Award 2009 for Best Beverage Book and the George Duboeuf Wine Book of the Year Award 2009. Although he lived happy and died happy, he sadly leaves behind his adored wife Polly Adema and cherished children Lauren and Drew. Also surviving are his father.

She born to Elsie and Sam Bedlow in Abbotsford in 1920, a younger sibling to Ed and Vera (Christian). Married in 1941. Olive and George raised their four children, Barbara (Hembling). Eileen, Janet and Ken, in Vancouver, where the family was active in Dunbar Heights United Church. On George's retirement in 1977, the couple relocated briefly to Okanagan Falls before settling in Ocean Park.

Olive retired from UBC Library in 1985. Widowed six years later, she cared devotedly for her grandchildren until a fall in 2007 precipitated her move to Morgan Place. Olive is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, Karen Reimer, Paul Hembling, Shaun and Jessica Stephens-Whale, and Georgia and Rebecca Stephens, and four great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Reimer and Eric and Page Hembling. She loved us steadfastly and is dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at Crescent United Church in Ocean Park on January 16th at 2:00 pm.
