According to Sherman, five years remain on the current lease, written 20 years ago when Jerry Volpe, a golf professional sold out his interest to five club members. Toffler reportedly encoun tered financial difficulties, largely caused by a large drop in membership. Fop nearly a year, there have been frequent reports of imminent sale of the lease. Now he's written a song for everybody who lives in New Jersey, that is. Goldberg and two musical friends have collaborated on "Here's To New an upbeat patriotic march that is being published by a New York recording firm. The song written last April is touted as a bicentennial tribute to the Garden State and is being discussed as a possible state song. "I guess you could call the whole thing a lark," Goldberg said.

"We just did it for fun. It was a pleasure to write." Goldberg said he expects Marlong Music Corporation who announced Friday the purchase of the song, to arrange for a recording. But three months ago, Norwood residents went ahead with their own recording. The Norwood public school chorus recorded the two-verse song and sang it for Gov. Byrne at the state conference of mayors in Princeton last May.

Goldberg, who has lived in Norwood for four years, is the associate conductor for the Broadway hit "Chorus Line." His collaborators are George Zuckerman of Asbury Park, the executive director of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, and New York City resident Patti Shor who wrote the lyrics for a Broadway play depicting the life of New York, Mayor Jimmy Walker. Mrs. Norma Schimento; vice-chairman of the Norwood Bicentennial Committee, said neighboring communities will be invited to a bicentennial celebration on September 21 where the song will be formally introduced. Goldberg is far from the first to attempt a patriotic song about New Jersey. Six separate bills were introduced in the state legislature this past year calling for one or another effort to be recognized as the state song.
