Dad was a fifth generation Islander born to Sydney and Isabelle Birch in Prince County, South West Lot 16, Ellis River, P.E.I.

on September 19, 1916, the eldest of eleven children. On October 7, 1936 he married Velda Murphy of Prince County, Lot 11, Poplar Grove, P.E.I and together they had eight children. In 1940 Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force; during this time he was posted through-out Canada. In 1945 his last posting was to Boundary Bay B.C. In 1947 we moved to Ladner where we bought our family home; remaining there until it was sold in 1976.

On November 28, 1945 Dad received an honourable discharge from the R.C.A.F soon becoming a commercial fisherman where he earned his living for over fifty years. His first fishing vessel was the Ida, then the Malpeque Bay and in 1955 he had his first boat built, the "VlI and and then his combination boat, the "Roh-Roh" in 1975. Dad had a phenomenal memory from the age of two and amongst his many stories he loved to recall were his fishing years in the Atlantic and the Pacific as well as his years of service in the R.C.A.F. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the U.F.A.W.U. Besides being an avid reader he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the baseball season each year, playing cards, floral and fauna, especially geraniums.

Dad faced many adversities during his life time; specifically alcoholism, open heart surgery and cancer, three different times. He was predeceased by mother Isabelle in 1932, oldest sister Pearl in 1940, wife Velda in 1959, father Sydney in 1977, son Donald in 1998, brother Byron in 1999, son Tex in 2005. In school Dad was taught the golden rule, "Do unto to others as you would have them do unto this he abided by all his life. He was very much a Christian Fundamentalist; one of the hardest working men we ever knew.

He is truly the last of a dying breed; we shall never see the likes of his kind pass this way again. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always believed, "A sense of humour will get you through anything." We are so very thankful to have had Dad in our lives for so very long. He will be dearly missed by his many relatives and friends on the East and West coasts. At Dad's request his ashes will be scattered in the mouth of the Fraser River in the Gulf of Georgia at the Canoe Pass Canbuoy where he first began his life long career as a commercial fishermen, sixty years ago. We have chosen September 19th to do this as Dad would have been eighty-nine on that date.

The time will be announced in the newspaper. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or a charity of one's choice. the previous day. Deaths DRAB Beatrice Marie April 9, 1911 June 14, 2005. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing at the age of 94, of our Mother, Mother-inLaw, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and family friend. She died peacefully with grace and dignity as always, in Richmond Hospital after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and her son Darcy Edward.

She is survived by her son Brian and daughter-in-law Carole, daughter-in-law Donna and husband Joe, granddaughters Lisa (Simon), Danae (Geoff), Deserae (Flavio) and grandson Chris (Mary), and the true loves of her life great-granddaughters Lexie, Kaitlyn and Hailey, and great-grandsons, Sam, Thomas, Jordan, and Charlie. Beatrice moved to Vancouver in the late 1930's, married her husband Edward in 1939. Together they raised their family in Vancouver after WWII, moving to the Fraserview area in 1950. Her lifelong love of music and beautiful singing voice afforded her many accolades and led her to join the Vancouver Bach Choir as an alto singer. She was also the director of choirs at the Fraserview United Church in Vancouver, which included a very large children's choir.

These groups were always a tremendous source of pride and pleasure for her over the years. "Bea" and Ed were also active members of the Orders of the Eastern Star the Amaranth for many years and both eventually held the highest positions within the Court. Her many friends in these organizations were a source of pleasure and support to her over the years. She and Ed moved to Ladner in 1996, to share a home with her eldest granddaughter and her family, including their three active little boys. It was a constant source of pleasure and delight to her to be to be so closely involved in the raising and loving of "her boys" and doing the things that kids and their Nanas do.

They, and all of her beloved greatgrandchildren, whom she adored completely, benefited from her wonderful sense of humour and joy of life. They are all left with the wonderful memories of a very special lady, a Great-Grandmother, which few children will experience. Bea was the matriarch of the family over the years, and her sense of fairness, patience, respect and tolerance was always a source of inspiration to her entire family. Her quiet words of wisdom, love and always present dignity, proved a model for all who knew her. She touched many lives over the years and possessed a wonderful ability to connect with everyone, regardless of age or circumstances.

She was truly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Above all, Beatrice was a Lady to the end. As a family, we would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Delta Hospital and Richmond Hospital, all of whom treated her with respect and dignity at every turn. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Sharon Salloum (her family ician) for the many years of compassion and ance she provided to our beloved Nana.

She will never know how much her kindness, empathy and expertise meant to all of us.
