These increases were approved by the City Council last night onj recommendation of City Manager Fred H. Workman; there was only minor discussion of the increases last night, the Council spent three hours in a personnel session Dec. 24 going over the Mangore report.

Mr. Workman noted the increase was anticipated by the Council when the tax rate was- set last summer. Affects 127 Employes The increase affects a total of 127 of the 199 city employes. While no general statement of amounts of increase is possible in, most departments since each job is classified independently, both the policemen and firemen in unranked categories Received approximately a six per cent hike. All members of the fire department received an increase and all but four in the police department were increased.

The only departments where no employes were granted increases were the city manager's office, city attorney's Office and city clerk's office. In past years, department heads have been passed up on salary increases but- this time, the chief building official, chief of police, fire chief, planning director, and park superintendent were increased one-step while the sanitation superintendent was increased two steps. No increases were recommended for-the-city manager, city attorney, city engineer, water superintendent, or director of finance. The city clerk and city treasurer are elective officials whose salaries are not subject to change during a term of office. The number of employes affected by the increase in each of the departments is shown in the following table: Number of Number Employes Affected Dept.
