Such is certainly the case with San Franciscos 4 Non Blondes, who serve up one of the most pleasant surprises so far this year with Bigger. Better, Faster, More! The album gets of to a great start with the very tuneful. Concrete Blonde-ish opener Train, an all stormer featuring a rock sound influenced by jazz fusion and Linda Perrys haunting voice a hybrid of Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napoli-tano and National Velevt's Maria Del Mar. You can hear that on Superfly with more jazzy riffing and a great chorus, and most notably on the hit What's Up, where Perry is a dead ringer for Del Mar. What's Up is a simple but extremely enjoyable number that gives full rein to the power that Perry possesses along with some wondering lyrics.
