1 1 1 1 THE VANCOUVER SUN, Saturday, February 26, 2000 AITKEN John Trail, age 87 years. We sadly announce the passing of our father on February 2nd, 2000. Devoted husband to Annie, proud father to 13 children, Christine (Roy), Russell (Doris), Stan, Ruby (Jim), Robert (Laurene), Sylvia (Maurice), Jean (Bryan), Ken, Don (Judy), Ron (Pat), Colleen, Bernice (Leo), Charlene (Art); as well as many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his 2 brothers James and David. daughter-in-law Liz and precious granddaughter Carly.

Following the tragic death of his mother during childbirth John, along with his 2 brothers and father, sailed to Canada from Scotland. John was left to make his own way in life at the age of 13 when his father returned to Scotland home sick for his homeland. He earned a living working on prairie farms often 'riding the rails' in search of work. Dad loved to share his stories of the very early years of 'breaking horses' on the farm, riding the rails and the Depression. During these years dad met his future bride, Annie, and moved to B.C.

where they raised their children. Mom and Dad celebrated their 60th anniversary in September 1999. Dad had very fond and loving memories of Mom's parents, Peter and Mary, as he lost his own parents early in life. Dad was a man of integrity, truth and honesty. he dearly loved babies, animals and Laurel and Hardy movies.

Family 'get-togethers' and good food meant so much to dad. Dad's last request was for us to take good care of Mom, and we will. We'll miss you terribly, Dad. Mary was predeceased by her adoring husband, Slim. Mum to her daughters, Sally (Brian), Elizabeth (Michael) and Bobbie (Bill). Nannie to her granddaughters, Sara, Katie, Jane, Sally and Rebecca. Many thanks to her friends and staff at the Central Park Manor, for all their kindness and loving care. Private funeral service was held on February 25, 2000.

She is predeceased by her husband Basil G. Clement, and stepdaughter Leona Clement. Hazel is survived by daughter Karen Iris Clement, niece Terry Heywood, Judy Sebal, stepdaughter Nancy Nygren and family.

Hazel will be remembered in the hearts of her family and many friends. Her kindness and generosity will be with us always. She was born in Marysville, Washington and was a Nanaimo resident for 80 years. She is the daughter Nanaimo of Sam and Sarah Carter of of Carter's the Bakery A in and also was a member IODE. Celebration of Hazel's life will be held Friday, March 3rd at 1:00 p.m.

Born June 7th, 1908. Predeceased by her husband Leon. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Juliette, Raymond, and Laurette and their families. Service to be held March 2nd, 2000 at Our Lady of Fatima in Coquitlam at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Valley View Cemetery, Surrey.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Ollie, son Michael and daughter Melanie. Beloved son of the late Charles Cuke and Grace and Jon Longum. Dearest brother of Virginia and Philip.

Brother-in-law of Frances, Benita, Linda and Michael. He will be fondly remembered by all his relatives and friends. After 78 years spent learning, growing, serving his country during World War Il, loving, marrying, raising a daughter and four sons, helping to better house Canadians, travelling, compiling his family tree and his passion for golf and a good joke, Paul drifted off to his eternal home with "HAPPY He is survived by his loving family, wife, Irene (Rene); daughter, Lee (Glen); sons, Gordon (Mary), Ian (Gail), Jim (Janice) and Stuart. His spirit will live on in his grandchildren, Kim, Barb and Jeff, Jim and Darin, Joe and Lenn, Megan and Peter, and his adorable great-grandchildren, Emily, Athena, Katrina and Carter. Paul also leaves his two older brothers, Robert and Harry in Red Deer and his sister, Edna in Coronation and their families. Paul will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Our family extends their gratitude and thanks for all the comfort and support we received during Paul's illness. She will be deeply missed by loving daughter, Margaret Schulz; sister, Heather (Bill); brother, Vic; niece, Gail (Eugene); sister-in-law, Annette; and their families. Predeceased by a dear brother, Jim. Jean is fondly remembered for her great love of life and sense of fun. She will be greatly missed by fellow teacher and friend, Sheri (Charles) and is remembered by her colleagues as a dedicated elementary school teacher in North Vancouver, Victoria and Powell River.

Jean will be sadly missed by family and friends. A special thanks to the staff of Cedarview Lodge North Vancouver for their care. No service by request. Annie leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband, Ray, of 56 years; Rosalind her son, Raymond Brethour (Trudi) Lowrey; daughters, (Michael) of Nanaimo, Corrine, Victoria; sister-in-law, Evelyn Beharrell, Sidney. She is also survived by her much loved grandchildren, Taylor and Leah Lowrey, Benjamin and Laura Brethour. Annie was a caring, loving mother and grandmother with a wonderful sense of humour, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her sister, Caroline Aeichele, Prince George.

Aunty Edna, as everyone called her, is survived by her sister Ruth Sorgaard, niece Elna (husband Pat), niece Doreen (husband Jerry), niece Rene, and many other nieces and nephews. She was very proud of being not only a Great Aunt but a Great Great Aunty and finally a Great Great Great "Aunty" to many nieces and nephews. She also leaves to grieve her dear friends Lyla and Steve, and many many friends she played bingo with. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends who had the privilege of knowing such a wonderful person. Dad enjoyed 38 wonderful years with the Vancouver Fire Department before retiring in 1985 as a District Chief. He was actively involved with the Development Disability Association, Retired Fire Fighters Association and had a great passion for soccer. Roberta was the daughter of a pioneering family from Port Moody. She attended the Great Trek of 1923 to the UBC campus and was a graduate from the U. of Toronto. She is lovingly remembered by her 3 children, Phyllis Oliver, Audrey Perger and Keith (Patricia) Oliver; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Sarah O'Farrell and Ida Waugh; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Fraser Heights Funeral Home, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey. FRASER HEIGHTS 589-2559 -412077 OSTLUND Gaynor Joan, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 25, 2000 at Evergreen Lodge, with her boys at her side. Gay is survived by her son Hal and his wife Brenda (nee Lloyd-Jones), their two boys Gavin and Brandon, as well as her son Bill and his two children Brian and Christina. She was predeceased by her husband Ray and her brother Chick Taylor. Gay was born on October 13, 1925 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, of Abe and Dorothy Taylor. She grew up there, moved to Montreal, and attended the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing from which she graduated in 1943.

She and her husband Ray were married in Medicine Hat on November 29, 1950, and then moved to West Vancouver, B.C. where they raised their family. Gay enjoyed working in the community and belonged to both the Junior League and the Daughters of the Nile. She was an active member of St. Christopher's Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild.

Gay devoted the later part of her years to the care of her husband Ray who was a resident of Evergreen Lodge. She was there twice a day well-known for fourand-a-half years where she became and loved by both the staff and residents whom she cared for as well. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff of Evergreen Lodge who in turn had the opportunity to care for her for the last couple of years. A memorial service will be held at St. Christopher's Anglican Church, 1068 Inglewood West Vancouver, B.C., on Tuesday, February 29, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. HOLLYBURN FUNERAL HOME 922-1221 -414442 RADCLIFFE John (Jack) Harrison Gilmour passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 19th, 2000. He will be lovingly remembered by Agnes, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Lynne (Sig) Schingnitz, Sharon (George Kincaid) Radcliffe, and son, Michael (Dianne) Radcliffe; grandchildren, Erika, Michael and Peter Schingnitz and brother, David (Jennie) Radcliffe, nieces and nephews, Gordie, Bev, Jane, Peter and Timothy. Dad was born in Merritt, B.C.

on March 15th, 1915. He spent his work years as a professional engineer with General Electric, Canadian Standards and H.A. Simons. A quiet self contained man who could happily spend hours puttering around his boat, futzing in the garden or dabbling in his wine cellar. No service at the request of the deceased.

FIRST MEMORIAL 980-3451 -400544 RYTTER Tom Olsen, born January 18, 1942 in Denmark passed away suddenly February 19, 2000 in Hot Springs Arkansas. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Margot, sons Kevin and Kim (Audra), sisters Lis and Kirsten, nieces and nephews. Tom also leaves to mourn other family members and friends. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Tom thrived on professional challenges, which took the family on living adventures around the world until his semiretirement in Hot Springs in 1999.

Marilyn and her sister Margaret who predeceased her were born in Winnipeg to Alexander and Leah Meldrum, and moved to Vancouver at a very early age. Marilyn was loved and admired by everyone she met, young and old for her even disposition, her ready sense of humour and particularly her genuineness and loyalty. She lived life by a strong sense of values with which she met all fortune, good and bad. Cremation. -218028 STEVENSON Ralph, born October 22, 1934, died of Lymphoma, February 22, 2000 at Peace Arch Hospital. Survived by Denise, his loving wife of 42 years; his wonderful children, Karen (Dale) Stevenson-Dickie, Russell (Kari); and his treasured grandchildren Michael, Simon, Ariel and Erik. Predeceased by his mother Christina (Ina). Also survived by his father, Louis; sister Margaret (Ken) Van Haar; brother Jim (Lucille); and many nieces.

Ralph was born at home on the Twigg Road in Milner, B.C. He attended Milner Public School, Langley Junior Senior High, and Semiahmoo High School in White Rock where he and Denise met. He was the Manager of the new White Rock Super Valu (store for 20 years. Ralph became a Realtor in 1973, joining Denise at Jeff's Realty. In 1979 they, along with 4 others, started Bay Realty Ltd.

Ralph had 6 enjoyable years of retirement enriched with lots of family and friends. We are all privileged to have known Ralph; he was a truly good, kind, gentle man. He will be deeply missed. A special thanks to the skills and caring provided by Dr. Lauren McCarthy, Dr.

Elizabeth Montgomery, Dr. Ernie Fuller, Dr. Ray Dykstra, Dr. Paul Klimo, Lions Gate Hospital, and Peace Arch Hospital Palliative Care. The care Ralph received was outstanding.

Des was employed for 42 years in the employee benefit business having his own company. Born in Northern Ireland, Des was an avid rugby player and golfer. He was a lieutenant in the British Army and served in Europe in a tank regiment in WW II. Des was a devoted husband and father, enjoyed many years of camping and coaching sports with his children. During retirement, Des and Rosemary spent many travelling via motorhome, plane and boat.

For his family and friends this place will never be the same without him. The family would like to thank the West Vancouver Home Care system, especially Norma and Faye for their devoted support.
