NEWS IN BRIEF Do-gooder overwhelmed by volunteers PENTICTON A restaurant owner who served up a free Christmas dinner has enough leftover turkey to stuff 50 people. Munchie Island owner Bob Ings organized the feast after meeting several local residents last year who literally had nowhere to go on Christmas Day. Ings said he was overwhelmed, not by the number of people who came for the dinner, but by the number who came to help.

Several businesses and individuals donated food and other goods. One woman brought in a huge deli tray, while other people brought in turkeys. The leftovers are no problem. "We're having a turkey dinner special at night and turkey clubs for lunch," he said. Canadian Press PRINCE GEORGE A woman whose husband and two of her three children were killed by a drunk driver is using her wedding anniversary as a day of action. Jim and Betty Ciccone would have been married for 22 years on Thursday. "If the roles were reversed, if Jim were here, I know there would be changes happening because he held such energy," Ciccone said from her home in Prince Rupert. David Kevin Johnson, 27, was sentenced to 3a years in prison for impaired driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident. She says people in Prince Rupert are angry and, within hours of the sentencing in Prince George, she had 15 people at her home ready to support her demands for an appeal of Johnson's sentence.
