6 THE GARDEN ISLAND, TUESDAY, JUNE 20 1911. Sporting News A total of fifty-five runs was made by the Kauai League Clubs Sunday, the biggest contributor to this enormous output being the Kilauea-Homestead game. The Kilauea team hammered the stuffing out of the "farmers," laying them on the shelf in a one-sided game, the score being 21 to 7 in favor of the Kilaueas. The Makaweli's bestirred themselves and put it all over the Koloa bunch. with a score of 9 to 1 in slugging battle.

In the symposium of run-getting in this game, the Koloa's certainly played an insignificant part. The Koloa's played a reaction game. The dash and confidence which has characterized the playing of this plucky team were not there. The new pitcher for Makaweli tightened up in firm style and had effective control of an underhand ball, and the Koloas were kept guessing. Being discouraged in their efforts to solve Akina, the home team lapsed into listlessuess and the game became tiresome and slow.

The Eleeles discovered a vulnerable spot in the Lihue team Sunday, and neatly shut the leaders out by a score of 9 to 8 in favor of Kleele. The Lihue team did not make many errors, but they fielded poorly. A new pitcher occupied the box, who hurled invincible ball and who, if proper support had 'been given would have won the game. Eleele put up its usual heady a making but few errors and doing some extremely good stick work. iS! PER CENTAGE OF TEAMS Av.

The Kilaueas on the Lihue Diamond Sunday, evened up the trimming they recently received at the hands of the "Fanners. The Koloas lead in successive winnings, having piled up four straights. "Who were to to blame for Koloa's defeat last Sunday?" some fellow has asked. In the absence of.

further evidene, we would naturally conclude that the Makawelis had considerable to do with it. The Eleele pitcher gained the admiration of the fans by his expert work. Being out late the night previous to a ball game is a poor excuse for defeat, and furthermore, indicates a lack of appreciation relative to an opportunity to win the trophy. The handsome silver cup which is to be presented to the winning team, the gift of the Lihue Store, arrived last week. It is a beauty and can be seen at the Lihue Store showroom.

It stands sbout six inches in height, is gold lined and and is certainly one which the winning club should feel proud to possess. A schedule, one which commends itself very highly to us, and the work of a director appears in this issue. We would respectfully ask our readers to read it over carefully after which if there is a suggestion to be made, you will kyidly communicate with this office, stating such suggestions. The proposed change will not go into effect until July 23. We are requested by officers of the Kauai Athletic Asssciation, to, express their appreciation of the thoughtfulness of those who provided transportation for the Makaweli team last Sunday.
