We have organized bv the appointment of the undersigned as chairman and secretary, and we immediately got vo work on the matter of transportation.

We are working for and hope to get either the Kilauea or Mauna Kea. We will not have a definite answer until Wednesday, but it looks as though we would be able to swing it. "I was very much gratified this morning when the committee representing your island definitely answered my question as to whether or not some of the delegates would allowed to bring their wives. Inasmuch as the question was answered in the affirmative, some of our delegates will be, I am sure, very much elated. "Our committee has been asked to find out trom you what the rates are to be on Kauai.

I recall the arrangements which were made by the Maui Civic Convention Committee last vear and those who stopped at the hotels on Maui were called upon to pav certain rates. "If I am propounding questions too rapidly, please tell me. You will appreciate, however, that a great many questions are arising eveiy day. I should like to be placed in touch with all sorts of information so that I will he able ro meet them when they come. "If I understand correctly, the Chamber of Commerce of Hono lulu is to handle but two subjects; "Need of a Civic Conscience" and "Politics and Civic Efficiency." the first of which was assigned to Mr.

L. A. Thurston and the second to Mr. I. N.

Steinbach. I understood later that Mr. Thurston is unable to handle "Need of a Civic Conscience" and that this Chamber is to select someone to take his place. Am I correct in that? "I wish vou would, as soon as possible, give me all the details, in fact a complete program showing what we are to do, when we are to do and where we are to do, so that in turn, may notify the other organizations. "With kindest regards, I am, "Very truly yours, C.

Tong See. I The following arrived by the W. :0. Hall Friday morning: W. H.

Hindle, Detective A. M. McDnfiie, About two weeks ago, wlun a committee of members of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce now at Honolulu was appointed to handle matters connected with the coming Civic Convention at that ml. Hon Paul Isenberg was named as its chairman. Mr.

Isenberg has writ ten the following letter to the Chamber, in which are embodied interesting and timely suggestions: Your two letters of August 2nd. and August 7th. have been duly received and this is the first chance I have had to answer them per sonally since rav accident. I hr.ve endeavored to hold two meetings to which only myself and Mr. Cyril O.

Smith came. I understand that Mr. A very has returned to Kauai and Mr. Bush, to whom a notice of the meeting on Monday last was mailed, did not appear, so your committee has been unable to get a quorum and. therefore, transact any business.

I would suggest to the Kauai Chamber of Commerce that the selection of absent members of the committee be left to the chairman to fill and appoint. Otherwise, the committee that you have endeavored to select on Oahu will not be able to do any business on account of no quorum. The secretary of the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce has met with us twice and the question of asking ladies to go on this with the members of the Chic Convention has been brought to our attention, and both Mr. Smith and I are very much in favor of their going along, and 1 hope the Kauai Chamber of Commerce will back up the opinion of the two active members of this committee. Transportation: I understand it is going to be the endeavor of the transportation committee to secure the Kilauea for this trip as it is exnected that about two hundred and fifty people will make the trip, including those from Hawaii and Maui.

My proposition is this: That the Kilanea go to Ahukini instead of Nawiliwili; that the Lihue Plantation be asked to put a train at the disposal of the Convention and take the people either to the Hotel or to the Lihue Plantation mill, and at one of these places breakfast be served to the Convention. I will personally write a letter to the President and Directors of the Lihue Plantation and ask them to grant this privilege From the hotel or the mill the Convention then can be taken care of by those who are willing to do so. Certainly the committees that are working in Honolulu are doing their very utmost to make this trip to Kauai a success, and are doing all in their power to make it so. and it is up to the Kauai Chamber of Commerce to do all they can at the Kauai end of it to help out as much as possible; and also to make it a grand success. Very truly yours, Paul R.
