Martin of Regina celebrated her 90th birthday with an afternoon tea recently. Hostesses were her daughters, Dorothy Gienow of Creston, B.C. and Kathleen Baker of Regina. Born in the Red Fox district, south of Sintaluta in 1892, she married Mervyn E. Martin in 1913.

They lived in a various towns in Saskatchewan. Her husband died in 1947. Pouring tea were granddaughters Joanne Allen of Regina and Nancy Salmon of Edmonton; Dianne Gienow of Craven and Sandra Baker of Regina, grandsons' wives. Randall Baker, grandson, read congratulatory wishes from various officials including Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Premier Grant Devine and Mayor Larry Schneider. About 70 guests signed the guest book attended by Kristin Baker, great-granddaughter.

A gift of flowers were received from Edna Harris of Vancouver. Guests came from a number of places including Regina Beach, Kelowna, Edmonton and Chicago, Illinois. Martin has two daughters, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A cardiology specialist, Habib Is a 1963 graduate of the Prince of Wales Medical College, Patna University, India.

He came to Regina in 1976 to head the Plains' new cardiology department. Habib is one of 642 physicians who have been elected to the national college this year, which means their colleagues have recognized their medical scholarship and achievement in internal med cine. Habib, also an associate professor of medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, said the fellowship is given to specialists involved in teaching, research, continuing education for physicians and community work in the medical field. He hopes to continue developing the cardiology field in Saskatchewan. A hike in the Great Sand Hills with naturalists from the Prairie Wildlife Centre will be held Saturday.

Interested participants should meet at the Civic Centre parking lot in Swift Current at 3 p.m. and will return by 9 p.m. and are asked to bring a picnic supper, water, insect repellent and to dress Chill evaporated milk in mixing bowl in freezer until ice crystals form at edge. Here are recipes for a low-calorie creamy salad, a refreshing soft "ice cream" and surprising banana treats the whole family will enjoy throughout 'the summer. Creamy Cucumber Salad one 3-oz. pkg. lime jelly powder 1 cup boiling water Vi tsp. salt 2 tbsp.

vinegar 1 tsp. chopped chives 1 cup creamed cottage cheese to 6 tbsp. skim milk 1 tbsp. lemon juice 2 cups finely chopped cucumber (include peel if tender) Dissolve jelly powder in boiling water. Add salt; vinegar and chives.

Chill until partly set. Combine cottage cheese, skim milk and lemon juice in electric blender and mix until smooth. Fold into partlyset jelly. Fold in cucumber. Chill until firm.

Makes servings. (Note: Smooth cottage cheese mixture is a good low-calorie substitute for dairy sour cream to serve on vegetables or use in recipes.
