Work had been suspended for several days during negotiations between William Russell Tubbs and J. R. Melzer of Reynoldsville, and Thomas L.

Dowd, the former owners of the factory, and the owner of the Dowd Chair Rental Service, of Buffalo, for the sale of the business and physical assets. The deal was closed January 30 and the new owners took over. The factory, reopened Monday with six workers employed but the owners stated they hoped to be up i'o 14 or 15 employes within a short time. Applications are' being accepted at the ASCS office, here. Mr.

Brown pointed out the sooner the application is filed, the easier it will be to obtain approval of the practice and take care of the program details before the work is begun. Under the 1964 program, the cost share program assistance averages about half the cost of carrying out conservation practices as establishing and improving vegetative cover of legumes, or trees for soil protection; installing erosion control structures, and practices for the conservation or more effective use of water. In addition the program provides for similar cost share assistance to iarmers in developing soil and water conservation practices primarily for the benefit of wildlife. These included establishment of wildlife food plots or habitat, ponds and shallow water areas, and other practices which provide important wildlife conservation benefits. GAS WELL BOOM HITS CRAWFORD CO.

MEADVILLE Crawford County will soon be the scene of one of the most important gas boom areas in many years and more than $1 James Drilling Blairsville, announced that his firm, which owns leases, on thousands of acres in the county where significant discoveries have been re ported, will soon begin drilling in the area. The James firm has awarded a contract to Flanigan Brothers of Bradford to drill four deep wells In Spring i Township near the Scull farm and four shallow wells in the Hayfielf1 Township area north of Littles Corners. Another tood roducer in Monroe Townsfcip, Ashtabula County, Ohio, has been completed by the firm. Out of the last 81 wells drilled by the James only nine have failed to produce, Shearer said. County's Unemployed BRADFORD A count of the active registration files in the Pennsylvania State Employment Office in Bradford shows that a total of 1,891 persons are registered sec king work in McKean County.

Olean Socony Site Bought by Felmont Corp. OLEAN, N.Y. The Felmont Oil Corp. and the Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have announced the sale of the former Socony Vacuum Oil Co. property in North Olean to Felmont for $93,000.

The purchase was identified as a step in the industrial development of the city, and the sale was authorized after spirited bidding i Bankruptcy Court in the Federal Courthouse in New York City. Felmont, which has headquarters in. New York and offices in the Hooker Fulton Building in Bradford, once operated a facility on the W. River Road which supplied water to area oil producers and Was known as the reclamation plant. The former Socony Vacuum property involving 112 acres in the city and about 50 acres in the Town of Olean was purchased from trustees in bankruptcy of the Swan Finch Oil Corp.

WILL MANUFACTURE MOBILE HOMES IN PUNXSUTAWNEY PLANT PUNXSUTAWNEY A new firm to manufacture mobile homes is expected to begin operation here about March 1, it was announced by Emery Anderson, owner of the Anderson Wholesale Co. here. Mr. Anderson said the firm wils be known as Anderson Mobile Home Manufacturing Company and will begin operations in the present wholesale company building. Mr.

Anderson said regular full size house trailers, basically of aluminum and completely fitted and furnished, will be constructed. The firm head said he tentatively has hired three local residents as employes of the new firm and expects to have a work force of 14 men when manufacture begins about March Industrial CD Unit to Prepare Questionnaire The McKean County Industrial Civil Defense Committee met Tuesday night at the Enis Hotel at Westline. The group prepared a questionaire which will be sent to all county industrial firms in an effort to determine what CD prac tices are now being utilized. Tne committee will then determine from the replies what assistance can be given these firms in establishing their own programs. Floyd A.

The school represents a depart ure in previous factory training in bringing the training into local areas rather than mechanics at tending schools at the factories. Much work was included in the ANF in Elk County and within vicinity of Improvement to the water and sanitation systems at Twin Lakes Recreation Area, general rehabilitation of the area were principal items in a $171,693 APW program. Specific McKean County projects involved timber stand improvement and garage and warehouse facilities for the Bradford Ranger District. The Kane area now is Included in the Ridgway Ranger District. In addition to APW funds, the ANF has its regular programs operating "in the black" through its vast timber harvesting program. The US.

Forest Service has committed funds for construction of Route 321 north from Kane to Red Bridge a project in the making through the Clearfield District office. In Warren County, extensive improvements to facilities at the Sheffield Ranger Station, Camp Bird sell Edey and the Buckaloons Recreation area were on the list along with timber stand improvement. In Forest County $102,955 was maiked under APW project planning to include rehabilitation of the Ranger station and facilities In Marienville, construction and im provement of forest roads and a continuing program on timber stand improvement. Mr. Wentz nad explained that the immediate availability of APW funds which advanced the ANF program by years, was possible as result of long range planning projects designed, surveyed and ready to go which were already on file when funds became available.

He said that the many projects in the $1,014,285 APW" jobs were ac complished by the ANF in a program executed by the Allegheny National Forest in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Area Redevelopment Administration. In commenting on the report, he observed: "In addition to providing employment throughput the four county Forest area, the work done under this program was necessary and worthwhile. The timber stand lm. provement work will pay future dividends in the form of better timber and increased revenues.

"The buildings constructed on the Forest will improve its efficiency. The work done at the Buckaloons and Twin Lakes Recreational areas, together with the development of many springs and small picnic areas throughout the Forest will increase its immediate usefulness to local residents and tourists alike. "Development of the recreation potential of the Kinzua Dam is important to all residents of the Forest area and this additional half million dollars brought its accomplishment much closer. New road construction and the surfacing and blacktopping of existing roads was financed by the program as was the expansion of facilities at the popular Jakes Rocks Recreation Area, the creation of the Rimrock Recreation Area, and preliminary work the much larger Kiasutha Recreation. Area.

This in conjunction with thft work financed by the regular Forest Service epproriations, represents definite progress on this important project." 40 EMPLOYED IN DOG FOOD PLANT NEAR MEADVILLE MEADVILLE Dnd's Dog Food, has begun production in Its new cannery in Kerrtown, neat here.
