About a year ago, the long-running children's drama series wrapped up with the Degrassi High characters finally graduating from school. Before that, there'd been other Degrassi series set in junior high and public school.

The Canadian public had been devoted to this darling drama. It was gritty, it was depressing, but it was always honest. And how can you just let the truth run away? Shortly after New Year, the Degrassi gang returned in a two-hour movie about life in the summer between high school and university. And now, weeks later, the Degrassi actors are back in Degrassi Talks (tonight at 8:30 on Ch. 2).

This time, reality drama transforms into reality get them. Not a shy bunch. A typical-looking 14-year-old turns out to be an atypical teenaged mother, who explains: "Things happened and I was stuck with a baby for the rest of my life." Well, she's more ordinary than one might think. While the interviews roll along, the producers discreetly stick their factoids onscreen, silently, such as: "35,000 Canadian teenagers become pregnant per year" or "70 per cent of teen moms are single." It has the effect, like a typical Degrassi episode, of working in A non-judgmental way, In between a few mumbles and some "Yeah, like, well" mutterings is some real-life eloquence.
