"I know people will say bow could she do a thing like that," said Debby Intili of Rahway, N.J. "But at the time I did it, I didn't know what was going on. I figured it was the best thing for my son.

I was in a state of shock." Mrs. Intili said she left her husband when the baby, Joey, was less than one year old. She said she took the child with her to her mother's home in Hollywood, but she and her mother disagreed over the care of the child. Intili returned to Miami this week to ask help from the Dade County state attorney's office to locate records of the child's adoption in Nassau County, N.Y.
