THE RECORD, SUNDAY, MARCH 24, 196S F-13 A Hay ley Mills festival Ml By Christopher Paul Dtnla Walt Disney Home Video Is offering a tribute to that ingenue of the Sixties, Hayley Mills, with the release of "That Darn Cat" and "Summer Magic," joining three previously released cassettes, "The Parent Trap," "In Search of the Castaways," and "Pollyanna." The blond daughter of the great British actor Sir John Mills captured the hearts of audiences and critics when she made her American film debut in 1960's "Pollyanna," as the spunky, carefree orphan who brings happiness and good cheer to her aunt's dour household, and eventually an entire town. VIDEO VIEWS ftilr IS rr Hayley Mills and Dean Jones in a scene from "That Darn Cat." For her warmly natural performance, Mills received a special Academy Award "for Outstanding Juvenile Performance during 1960." "Summer Magic" is a story of young love, mysterious family secrets, and summer nights in a tiny New England village. It's pleasant and predictable, and costars Burl Ives and Dorothy McGuire. "That Darn Cat" is a colorful suspense comedy featuring lots of delightful cameos by a supporting cast that includes Frank Gorshin. Both films have the slick Disney production values and are available in VHS and Beta formats, $69.95 each cassette.

Soon after, I sent all the proofs of purchase, plus the receipt. A lot of time has gone by, and I still don't have my rebate. I don't know If I'll be using the machine again this year, but I'd be a lot more willing to clean up the snow If I had my 120. G. Rutherford.

HOW ABOUT A FLURRY OF DOLLAR BILLS? Action Line's letter reached Julie Magnuson of the Carlson Marketing Group, which handles the rebates for Toro. She checked the company records and found that someone had overlooked your rebate coupon and that you were Indeed entitled to $20. She wrote Action Line, promising a check would be on Its way, and you now have it. Can you table-top this? Last September, because another moving company we had hired failed to show up, we paid All Muscle Moving Inc. of Lodi $55 an hour to move my parents' things from the Bronx to Dumont No contracts were signed because of the short notice, but I told the company that there were delicate glass pieces to be moved, and they'd need three men.

But they sent only one professional young man, plus two helpers. In the process of moving, a marble table top was broken. Since the table top was one of a set of three, I agreed to pay for the replacement of the broken table top, providing all three tops would come out looking alike. To make all three look alike, the beveled edges of two unbroken tops would have to be altered to match the one that replaced the broken top. This they agreed to do.

We have since made dozens of phone calls, but now I find I've paid out $209 and I am still missing three table tops. L. Dumont. YOU NOW HAVE ALL YOUR MARBLES -three tabletops, that is. Steven Lattanzi of All Muscle Moving wanted to do the right thing, but found it took more time than he bargained for.

You indicated in your thank-you note that Action Line's letter moved things along faster, and you're satisfied with the outcome. Overdue Christmas present Back in October, I sent for a Gizmo doll, as advertised on the back of a Gremlins cereal package. Along with the order went two proofs of purchase and a check for $9.95. It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my daughter, but I've never received the doll just my Finding a reliable dealer Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Oldsmobile Ciera, or Buick Century but more important than the specific brand is the dealer's operation. Do you have any specific thoughts on the subject? A.

It is my firm belief that the great majority of new-car dealers AUT0K03ILES they deal with expect some special treatment "It's almost like playing a game," said the general manager of a large dealership in the Philadelphia area. "The customer has to be made to think he is getting the best possible discount before he'll sign. Forget that the dealer makes up the difference on the trade-in or add-on accessories; if the customer believes he's getting a deal, he'll sign in a minute." The practice probably began with the first enterprising new-car salesman 75 years or so ago. It quickly became a veritable art form and then a way of life. If someone went See, FINDING, Page F-14 By Bill Simmon Knlght-Rldder News Service Q.

I have a brief question, the answer to which, I suspect, will be anything but brief. Exactly how does a consumer go about finding a new-car dealer in whom he can have faith? I have bought several new cars over the years and it has been strictly a hit-or-miss proposition. Of course, it may well be possible that I set my standards too high. I not only look for a good price, but I appreciate courteous treatment from all concerned and look for a staff competent technicians. At any rate, I am about to set out on a new-car search.

I have in mind the type of car I want Chevrolet canceled check. Now we're well into 1985 and I'd like to get the doll or a refund. M. Wood-Ridge. WHEN ACTION LINE SAID "BOO!" to the fulfillment company, somebody there was startled into action and got Little Gizmo off in a hurry.

Your daughter was playing with the doll 10 days later. Address letters to Action Line, The Record, 150 River Hackensack, N.J. 07602. Please do not telephone. Letters should state the problem and include the complete address of the company as well as your address and telephone number.
