FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 1939 BLYTHEVTLLE, (ARK.) COURIER NEWS McCloy Declares Soviets Readying E. German 'Base' W Communist Leaders S««k Way to Block W. German Defense BERLIN, Aug. 25. (/P)—East Germany's Red lenders meet today to study ways of blocking rearmament of West Germany. As they gathered, u. S. High Commissioner John J. McCloy warned that Russia appears to be readying the Communist republic as a base for a future attack on the w.est. East German Chancellor Ott Grotewohl keynoted the opening o the Communist Nation Congress two-day session here with an nppea to West Germans to resist rearma nient on the grounds that a "wa would devastate all of Germany West German Chancellor Konrac Adenauer has recommended strong er occupation armies and authorit for German armed forces to eonnte rearmament moves In the Eas German Soviet Zone. McCloys' warning appeared i his quarterly report on occupa lion affairs. He charged the west with using German youth as "cannon fodder" and placing them under the command of former Hitler generals in preparation for war against Russia.
