THE SUNDAY RECORD. JUNE 12. 1977 BERGEN COUNTY iifw JERSEY Winners score in first inning Ramapo's Leach loses one-hitter standable because the Raiders do not have a senior on the team. "Getting this far was good for the team," said Bialeschki. "Nobody expected us to do this." JOHN ROWE HjIKOCai Val.

(1) Rmp () 1 I A p2 WEST WINDSOR Championship games often are decided on unusual plays. Such was the case yesterday when Ramapo's girls Softball team lost a State championship game. Rancocas Valley scored a first-inning run in an unorthodox manner to beat the Raiders, 1-0. in the Group 3 title game in the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament at Mercer County Park. Ramapo pitcher Bev Leach allowed only an infield single by Hollie Anderson, but it didn't figure in the scoring.

Leach walked Chris Hruby to start the game and Sue LaPierre bunted her to second. Marcy Carter, the next Rancocas hitter, bunted and Ramapo first baseman Tammy Olenich fielded the ball. Her throw to second baseman Donna Schmitt got to first the same time as the runner did. "It was a fluke play," said Ramapo coach Debbie Bialeschki. "It was well executed, but as Donna (Schmitt) stepped on the base, she and the runner collided.

By the time she picked herself up, the other runner (Hruby) had come around to score." The run was all winning pitcher Lynn Sykes needed. She pitched a three-hitter, struck out 10 and frustrated the Ramapo hitters. "We are used to a lot of fastball pitchers in the Northern Bergen Interscholastic League and she (Sykes) wasn't as quick," said Bialeschki. "Our girls were swinging too fast. We tried standing in the front of the batter's box, but it didn't work." Ramapo's best-scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning.

Leslie Stephens walked and Olenich singled. The runners went to second and third on the throw-in. Debbie Arpert followed with a two-out liner to left, but Rancocas' Anderson came up with a fine catch. "I thought it was going to be a homer," admitted Bialeschki. The Ramapo coach said her team had a bad case of jitters, but that's under 0 CifSkorf 0 Scrim.

Lori Copeltian and Alfano singled in the fifth, and Janet Fisher doubled off the Sayreville third baseman's body.

The ball bounced into the dugout, and Copeltian scored. A wild pitch scored the next run, and after a walk, Val Duerr singled for two more runs. Singles by Radigan, Jean Sansone and Lisa Castrucci around a walk produced three sixth-inning runs. Alfano was in complete command in winning her 15th straight game. She allowed only two hits after the third and fanned three.

"I thought we could go all the way after the Wayne Hills game (a 4-2 State sectional semifinal win)," said Patemo, "and our kids played very well after that." -PAUL SCHWARTZ BR78-13 IHE1 $2.06 WEST WINDSOR Tom Patemo had Sayreville scouted well. "My scout told me their pitcher will walk a few," he said. So the Passaic Valley coach had his players taking against Sayreville pitcher Karen DeSiena in the first inning, and DeSiena walked five Hornets, leading to three runs and helping PV go on to an easy 11-1 win in the Girls Group 4 softball championship yesterday. Passaic Valley, which won its last 20 games on the way to a spectacular 29-2 season, didn't win its State championship on a good eye alone, though. The Hornets had 15 hits and backed Lisa Al-fano's five-hit, no-walk pitching with some fine infield play.

Diane Radigan had the only hit of the first inning, a run-scoring single, and Karen Byahs homered to left in the third for a 4-0 lead.
