a The VANCOUVER SUN: July 5, 1972 3 TWO BROTHERS BRING IRISH DEATHS TO 401 Mental hospital blaze claims 30 BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) The bodies of two Protestant brothers were found today shot through the head. Two other men were wounded in shooting incidents before dawn despite the ceasefire. The slain youths were identified as Malcolm and Peter Orr, aged 20 and J. Their bodies were found one atop the other on the road to the Belfast airport. Their deaths brought to 401 the number of dead recorded in three years of communal violence.

Eight other men were killed by shots through the head and their bodies abandoned during the weekend. Six were Roman Catholics and two were Protestants. There is some speculation that the executions are the work of men posing as taxi drivers. The theory is that they pick up passengers and shoot them if they are of the other religion. Bomb misses dancers lice and firemen will be conducting separate inquiries," Kempshaw said.

The 25-year old brick building had been completely remodeled earlier this year and had only been open fur two months. Nursing staff who raced to the building brought seven men out from the flaming dormitory, but one later died. Some men were able to walk from the building with nurses supporting them, others had to be carried. All six survivors suffered from shock and smoke inhalation. "it is a mystery so far why so many died," Kempahaw said.

Damage was confined to the interior of the dormitory end of the building. The other end of the structure, containing public lounges and medical facilities, was undamaged as was a building standing a few feet away. "It was the most severely haudicapped ward of the hospital," said Johnson. An ambulance spokesman described the situation as "horrible." Coldharhour Hospital, which sprawls over 24 acres, was a former Royal Navy hospital. It became an important centre for mentally-handicapped patients after the Second World War.

Sua Newt Dispatches SHERBORNE, fngland Fire killed 30 patients in Cold-harbour Hospital's wing for the mentally defective today only hours before hundreds of friends and relatives were expected to celebrate the hospital's open house. Harry Kempshaw, hospital secretary, said the victims were all from one wing of the hospital set aside for severe mental defectives. He said the average mental age of the patients was "five or six." The cause of the fire was nut determined. Dr. Peter Johnson, chairman of the hospital management committee, said the victims apparently were overcome by smoke.

"It was a very quick blaze, over in a few minutes. We don't have a sprinkler system in the ward," Johnson said. The fire started at the dormitory end of the single-story Wiiifrnh Villa about 3 a.m. Sherborne is a southwest England market town of 8,000. Between 350 and 360 pa-tienls were housed in the hospital.

The toll in today's fire surpassed the 24 who died in a lire at a psychiatric hospital in Shrewsbury in February, "We have just begun our own investigation and the po STYLISTS IN EYEWEAR constantly send their lateit creations that is why we always have a wide variety of exciting frame. The theatre was picketed earlier Tuesday night by Jewish Defence League members, some of whom carried empty riiles and signs warning patrons of the performance that they were attending "at jour on risk." The car belonged to Arthur Human, 55, a janitor at a bakery goods manufacturing plant where three employees were injured last week when a similar device exploded in a car.

The documents, released after 30 years by the foreign office, said a "considerable body of circumstantial evidence backed up Nazi claims that Germany had nothing to do with the killings." They disclosed Britain kept its suspicions of Russian guilt quiet for the sake of Allied unity during the war.

"We have, in fact, perforce used the good name of England to cover up a massacre," a former British ambassador to Poland wrote in a confidential dispatch seen only by the British cabinet and King George I. The account of the killings was among the 1U43 official documents held in the London Public Records office under a 30-year secrecy rule and now available to the public. They contained the findings of Owen O'Malley, then British ambassador to Poland. The German government announced the discovery of mass graves at Katyn in April 1943. The Soviet government repeatedly denied guilt and accused the Germans of murdering the prisoners during their 1041 assault on Russia.

'If grandmaster Spassky or the Soviet people were inconvenienced or discomforted I am indeed unhappy for I had not the slightest intention of this occurring," Fischer said.

Officials hoped the twice-postponed tournament could yet underway Thursday but earlier representatives of both Fischer and Spassky bruke off talks, casting doubts on the possibility the match would be held.
