and Wallington. Burrell Ives Humphreys, then county prosecutor, refused to prosecute, pointing to Olszowy's youth at the time of the arrests and noting that the assemblyman could have expunged the arrest record if he had wanted. Governor Byrne called Olszowy a dedicated legislator. "During his four years in the Assembly, he made numerous contributions to the legislative process, to the citizens of his district, and the people of New Jersey," Byrne said in a prepared statement. "Emil was one of the persons you could ever meet," said Paterson Mayor Lawrence "Pat" Kramer.

"He was always willing to sit down and listen to both sides of a question." "He was a beautiful man and a very dedicated public official," said Freeholder Terry LaCorte, a personal friend of Olszowy's. "He was always accessible." Olszowy served on the Passaic Council from 1971 until taking his Assembly seat in 1976. He also was appointed to the $1-a-year position of city tax assessor. He had previously been a vice-president of the Manhattan Rubber Workers Union. His death 1 leaves the Passaic Republican Party without a legislative representative in Trenton.
