Lewis, 75, writer and former actor, died Monday in Englewood Hospital. Born in Michigan, Mr. Lewis had lived in New York before moving to Tenafly 29 years ago. He was a writer for the movies, television, stage, radio, and magazines. He wrote the book "Trouping," a history of 19th Century road theater in America, and his play "The American Dame," about women's liberation, is still being performed.

He also created the docu-drama format. Prior to World War IL Mr. Lewis was an actor for about 20 years, performing on Broadway and in many cities. In the 1940s, before starting his writing career, he worked for the United States Information Service. Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth Jaffe Lewis; two daughters, Leslie Aceves of Atlanta and Lydia Lewis of Chicago, and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the McCandless Room of the Tenafly library. Memorial donations to the capital development fund at Englewood Hospital would be appreciated. Babcock, 73, formerly of Ridgewood, died Friday at Memorial Hospital. Born in Glen Rock, Mrs. Babcock had lived in Ridgewood for many years before moving to Hollywood in 1971. She had been a telephone operator with New Jersey Bell fo 35 years until her retirement in 1961. Mrs.

Babcock was a member of the Eastern Star of Hawthorne. Surviving are her husband, Joel of Hollywood; a sister, Ann Van Haste of Ridgewood; and two brothers, Christian Smith of Ridgewood and Ralph Smith of Midland Park. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the J.H. Olthuis Funeral Home, 159 Godwin Midland Park, with burial in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.

Friends may call tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. Charles H. Floerke MAYWOOD Charles H. Floerke, 91, died Saturday at home. Mr.

Floerke was an inspector for Cur-tiss-Wright Corp. of Wood-Ridge. He worked there for 27 years before retiring in 1956. Mr. Floerke was born in New York.

He lived in Ridgefield and Cliffside Park before settling in Maywood in 1945. He was a life member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge 17 of Jersey City, and the Salem Chapter of the Shriner's Club. Surviving are a daughter, Roberta F. Crawford of Maywood; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Wilhelmina Hoppman Floerke, died in April 1956.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Trinka-Faustini Funeral Home, 439 Maywood with burial in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Friends may call today from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

-T 1 I III -i i i Nina L. Millen, retired editor PLEASANT HILL, Tenn. Nina Le-nore Millen, 83, a retired editor with the National Council of Churches, died Saturday. Miss Millen retired in 1960 as director of the children's department of Friendship Press, a publishing unit of the National Council of Churches in New York, where she had been employed for 24 years. She served as program adviser for a children's radio series, wrote children's books, and wrote scripts for television puppet shows.

Surviving are several nieces. Memorial services will be scheduled. Donations to the Uplands Retirement Center Trust Fund for Home Care Health Service, Pleasant Hill, would be appreciated. Herbert A. West, Tenafly attorney TENAFLY Herbert A.

West, 80, a retired attorney, died Monday at Englewood Hospital. Mr. West worked for the Mutual Life Insurance Co. in New York for many years. He was a member of the Tenafly Planning Board for six years, and a volunteer for the Red Cross and Community Chest.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Mr. West lived in Tenafly for more than 40 years. He was a veteran of World War I. He graduated from Brown University and received a law degree from Harvard Law School. Mr.

West was a member of the Massachusetts and New York state bar associations. Surviving are his wife, Inez a daughter, Janet Schwarz of Tenafly, and a son, David F. of Harrington Park. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church, with private cremation.

Arrangements were made by the Mor-itz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Road, Closter. Robert D. Orr Sr. CARLSTADT Robert D. Orr 46, a financial analyst with Columbia Broadcasting System of New York for 25 years, died yesterday at Hackensack Hospital.

Mr. Orr was born in Passaic and lived in East Rutherford before moving to Carlstadt in 1960. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Anne's Council in Fair Lawn and was a parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C.

Church in East Rutherford! Surviving are his wife, Diane Sally Orr, three sons, Robert William and Christopher all at home; a brother, William of East Rutherford, and a sister, Marie Smith of River Vale. Capaci who operated the Green Terrace Restaurant, died Sunday at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pequannock. He was 68. Mr. Capaci was born in Paterson and lived in Wayne since 1952. He previously opeerated a butcher shop in Pompton Lakes.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Blau-rock Capaci; four sons, Frank of Steam-wood, 111., Lawrence of New York City, Charles of Bloomingdale, and Salvatore Jr. of Paterson; two daughters, Alyce Fitzsimmons of North Haledon and Carol Violette of Wayne; a brother, James of Hawthorne; two sisters, Josephine Ia-cobelli of Glen Rock and Catherine Cara-tozzolo of Hackettstown, and 21 grandchildren. Mariam Katz NEW YORK Mariam Katz. 84. died Monday at Lydia Hall HospiUl in Free-port, N.Y. Mrs. Katz was born in Poland and had lived in the Bronx for 57 years.

She is survived by a son, Murray of Englewood; a daughter. Florence Alt-man of Merrick, N.Y.; a sister, Fannie Fichelson of Oakland, and five grandchildren. Her husband, Leon, died in 1967. Services were scheduled for today at 3 pm. at the Robert Schoem Menorah Chapel, W-150 Route 4, raramus.

Bauman MAHWAH Marjorie H. Brown Bauman, 55, died yesterday in Valley Hospital, Ridgewood. Mrs. Bauman was bom in Hackensack and had lived in Oradell and Bogota before moving to Mahwah 14 years ago. She was a member of the Central Unitarian Church in Paramus.

She had been a Brownie and Cub Scout leader in Bogota and Mahwah and had also been active in the PTA in the two towns. Surviving are her husband, Edwin a daughter, Barbara L. of Missoula, three sons, Bruce R. of Bergen-field, Barry with the Army at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, and Brad W. of Massachusetts; and her mother, Margar-ette Brown, and brother, Maynard Brown, both of San Diego.

Weissberg, 85, died Sunday in the Wiersma Nursing Home, Allendale. Born in New York, Mrs. Weissberg had lived in North Bergen for 35 years and in Waldwick since 1965. Mrs. Weissberg was a parishioner of the United Methodist Church, a member of the Martha Circle of the church, and the Waldwick Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Bur-man of Waldwick; two sisters, Helen Muller of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Martha Andersen of Guttenberg; two brothers, Henry Hess of Ridgefield and George Hess in Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter. Born in Englewood, Mr. Sweeney had lived in Teaneck before moving to Tena-fly 27 years ago. Mr. Sweeney was president of the Board of Realtors of East Bergen County in 1948 and president of the Past Presidents Club of Realtors in 1967. Surviving are his wife, Marie Gleason; two sons, John D.

Maher was born in Glen Cove, N.Y. He lived in Ramsey before moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1968. Surviving are his wife, Harriet a son, George H. of Fort Lauderdale; a brother, Edward of New York; three sisters, Irene Grainger and Agnes Harriot, both of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Loretta Maher of Westport, and five grandchildren. Margaret Mary Simmons NEW MILFORD Margaret Mary Reiner Simmons, a retired credit auditor, died Monday in Tenafly. Mrs. Simmons was born in Union City. She lived in Edison before moving to New Milford in 1959.

In 1975 she retired from Bloomingdale's department store, where she had worked 20 years. Surviving are her mother, Elizabeth Reiner Koch of Union City; a sister, Bernice Policastro of Woodcliff Lakes, and two brothers, William Reiner of Jersey City and Philip J. Reiner of Ring-wood. Her husband, Everett, is deceased. Mass will be said at 10:15 a.m.

Lewis the Guardian as a theater, music, and opera critic. For the last few years, he wrote a weekly column for the paper observing the world through his idiosyncratic eyes.

Queen Elizabeth II honored him four years ago by making him a Companion of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). He is survived by a sister. 1970's, when he appeared as a father superior in a television comedy series, "Oh Brother." He performed in Shakespeare and Shaw plays and made four visits to New York between 1922 and 1953. On his last, he appeared in "The Prescott Proposals" at the Broadhurst Theater. Among the films he appeared in were "Quo Vadis" and "Victoria the Great." He is survived by a daughter.

Eileen McBridge Shields LITTLE FERRY- Eileen McBridge Shields, 94, died Sunday at Andover Intermediate Care Center. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Mrs. Shields lived in Hoboken before moving to Little Ferry in 1977. Surviving are two sons, John of Andover and Frank J. of Little Ferry; four sisters, Jean Devine of the Bronx, Bertha Morgan of Rockville Center, N.Y, Martina McDonough of West, Roxbury, Mass, and Elizabeth Campbell of Massachusetts, and six grandchildren.

He husband, John, died in 1951. Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Margaret's R.C. Church, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
