2425 Quebec Street Vancouver, B.C. V5T 4L6 Telephone No. 873-5271 The Vancouver KIDNAP CASE OFFER MADE TORONTO (UPC) Business a associates of Frederick Johnsen say they are prepared to pay "any amount" to secure the release of the millionaire kidnapped at gunpoint from his fashionable Toronto home last week. The businessmen, speaking through Toronto lawyer David Humphrey, made the offer in hopes of eliciting a ransom demand from the kidnappers. "On the assumption that this is a commercial kidnapping the concerned businessmen want to explore every possible avenue," Humphreys told a news conference Sunday.

"We are inviting the kidnappers to choose an intermediary in whom they have complete to deal with the businessmen who have access to any amount of money necessary to negotiate Mr. Johnsen's release." The businessmen, mostly from the Toronto area, made the offer because they were concerned "for their friend's safety," Humphreys said. Johnsen is president of British United Automobiles Ltd. and owns several nursing homes and other interests. HOCKEY SCHOOL Female Lafleurs outskate boys TORONTO (CP) Marie Egerton and Anna Lattanz completed a power play.

The two 15-year-olds were the only girls who took a power-skating course offered to young hockey players in North York. Loaded up in their pads and helmets, no one knew the difference until the first roll call. "The instructor called out Murray Egerton," Marie said. "I said 'That's Marie, as in girl' and the boys broke up." That's when their troubles began. The two, veteran players of the Toronto Aeros girls' hockey team, say they were hassled and even challenged to fight by the other 10 players all boys.

"They never gave us any respect," said Anna. "They liked to shove us when we lined up for The girls also said they were less than happy with their dressing room a washroom. But it didn't cramp their style. Chief instructor Estelle Glioona said the girls were aces on the ice. "All I heard from their instructor was that they were outskating the boys in some of the drills," she said.

The course involved a series of drills in full hockey gear, designed to teach young hockey players maximum speed, power and efficiency with a minimum of effort. "I discovered my technique was all wrong," Anna said. "I was using a lot of energy by taking short push-offs with my feet. I was almost running. I learned to push off sideways with long strides." Marie's biggest achievement was learning to skate backwards.

And what did the boys finally think? "We showed them," said Anna. 445 LEGALS WAREHOUSEMEN'S LIEN ACT Under the terms and conditions of the Warehousemen's Lien Act, the following storage lots from our house are to be sold by Public Auction at Maynards' Auctioneers 1233 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, B.C. on September 19, 1979 7:30 p.m. Lot No. 2040 Bruce Hardy Sundry household items.

(UPI) The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said today it lost crucial data concerning the possibility of life on Saturn's moon Titan because of interference from a Russian satellite. NASA said the interference was not deliberate but that the U.S. scientists neglected to notify the Russians about the possible interference. Charles Hall, Pioneer project manager, said NASA was "very disappointed" to lose temperature measurements of Titan, a moon larger than the planet Mercury. Earlier in the Saturn mission, NASA had asked the Russians to avoid possible interference with Pioneer transmissions.

The Russians duly turned off their satellites. But, during the crucial period Monday, "the impact of the potential interference was not recognized in time to make a request to the Soviets," NASA said. 1445 LEGALS 445 LEGALS THE CORPORATION OF THE DISTRICT OF BURNABY ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENTS PUBLIC HEARING The Council of The Corporation of the District of Burnaby hereby gives notice that It will hold a Public Hearing on TUESDAY, 1979, SEPTEMBER 11 AT 19:25 in the Municipal Hail, 4949 Canada Way, Bumaby, B.C., V5G 1M2 to receive representation in connection with the following proposed amendment to "Bumaby Zoning By-law 1. But when Pioneer was returning data Monday from Titan, its signals were being received by a station at Madrid. Hall said that apparently nobody checked to see if the Russian satellites would cause trouble for reception at Madrid. "There are so many people working these sensitive problems that trying to get through the whole loop is just too long." Pioneer's signals from Titan were swamped by interference 100 to 1,000 times the spacecraft's own feeble signal.

It survived the asteroid belt, and although it suffered some circuitry damage when blasted by enormous radiation as it curved close around Jupiter that damage had been expected. Titan's temperature is important because, for life to exist, the surface should be above freezing, the level allowing primitive organisms to move. Titan, larger than both earth's moon and the planet Mercury, has the chemicals necessary for organisms to form and it has an atmosphere. Many scientists theorize that Titan's surface is about 101 degrees celsius below zero. But this has not been proved and some scientists disagree with it.

City warns hawkers Fruit and vegetable sellers hawking their wares at illegal roadside stands have been warned by newspaper advertisements placed by the City of Vancouver to move out of the city by Sept. 15 or face impoundment of their merchandise and equipment.

The ads published over the weekend follow a city council decision in July to outlaw roadside selling because of traffic hazards posed by the stands, which have been located on the busy thoroughfares of Southeast and Southwest Marine Drive, and West Fourth at Jericho. Although it is directed primarily at the fruit and vegetable sellers, all illegal venders will face impoundment, city licence inspector Ken Armstrong said. Roadside vending is illegal under the terms of the street and traffic bylaw. However, it is legal if done under permit and in a kiosk at a specific location approved by the city, such as the Granville Mall and the Granville Island market. The city will dispose of perishable goods seized, and equipment may be retrieved by owners within three months if they reimburse the city for costs incurred..
