Sunday Dinners a Specialty announced to tnepuDuc mac uie twelve miles of detour between Moscow and Gouldsboro had been eliminated and that the lighter vehicles are allowed to travel over the stretch of new pave, the final connecting link in the famous and picturesque Lackawanna Trail. The new stuetch of pavement will be officially opened Friday, June .29 when heavy trucks will also be permitted to travel over it. The old highway, which wound its way throughout the hills' of Daleville and Gouldsboro, now becomes an important link in Pennsylvania's unexcelled highway system, which has aided amterially to the progress of the United States, and leaving something worth while to posterity. The skill and ability of the engineers is readily seen, as dangerous curves and hills are cut away in order to lay a beautiful straight stretch of white pavement. Landmarks of the old turnpike were cut away.

Many homesteads will now view traffic from their back porches, as engineers with the ultimate in view laid the new road through backyards and new grounds. Every effort has been made to provide the traveling public with a smooth riding surface in the best possible condition at all times of the year. Every consideration has been given to proper location and the best alignment for the road in order that the distance may be shortened, heavy grades reduced and other dangerous conditions eliminated. The highway department is still maintaining workmen in erecting signs and leveling the roadsides, which in all probabilities will be finished Friday morning. The new pavement is of the heavier type, constructed for the purpose of carrying the heavy trucks and the enormous summer traffic.

The importance of this may be realized through a study of statistics on car and truck production and registration throughout the United States. In 1895, four automobiles were produced and registered and in 1926, 3,936,933 automobiles were manufactured and 19,237,171 registered. In 1904, 410 trucks were registered, while in 1926, 274,222 trucks were registered. Pennsylvania, in the first year of legal registration, 1906 registered 10,954 automobiles and trucks and in 1926, 1,276,519 passenger automobiles, 206, 321 trucks and 8,034 busses. The final 'connecting link between Scranton and the playground of the state is completed.

Old wayside stands which were abandoned when the new pavement was started are now opening in all their glory, ready again to cater to the demands of the motorists. Among the Scrantonians who are ready to receive their friends are John T. Porter at the Blue Shutters, Just above Elm hurst; Billy Kelly at the Mountain Ash Inn, formerly the Old historic Dale homestead, surrounded by large trees which date back to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 1876. If front of the Inn there is also a monstrous size mountain ash which is said to be brought over here from Rome be served with a good old fashioned in this city for half a century, was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of his son, Matthew a dispute over the payment of union dues by a blacksmith and his helper. The difficulty will probably be settled dinner, a really good home cooked meal.
