Sept 12. (Reuters) A violent earthquake shook Cairo today killing at least persons most of them school children and Injuring scores of others. More than 45 houses were demolished and skyscrapers trembled when the tremor hit the city at e.m. local time (2.1$ tin. KDT).

Twelve schools In 'various districts of the city were wrecked and children were Injured, said a spokesman of the' Egyptian Red Crescent (Red Cross) Society. Eight children died when one school at Bab El Shaarlya collapsed and three other children died later la hospital. A police spokesman reported Scientists Tightly Guarded An extremely tight 24-hour security guard today had beent clamped on the Centre Block with five of Its rooms occupied by scientists and military men conferring on the techniques of toxicologleal warfare. The around-the-clock patrol la being provided by the grey- uniformed security guard of the Defence Research Board. School to Have Chemical Toilets Only a Few Days Twenty-tour chemical toilets are being installed in tne new 23-room public school on St' Laurent Boulevard to that 550 pupils will be beck at school Wednesday morning. Wholesale sources said it was up to service station operators to decide whether the increase would send up retail prices.
