I 24 THE SUNDAY RECORD. DECEMBER 26. 1978 Charting the stars of 76 TMCiv vcADie cue HEW YEAR'S EVE '77 broke out with a hit album and a Eold single. The album should be a 2-milhon seller soon. 3.

"Boston" by Boston. In a year for setting records, this album turned out to be the THE FRAhX EEnNETT ORLhFSTRa FULL COURSE WW UHLiniilvirtfliin rED OPEN IAR CHAMPAGNE TOAST K'r eHtf 1977 i aw RESERVE NOW 346-2230 where Frampton left off. His long-awaited album. ''Songs in the Key of Life." sold 1 million copies in advance orders and promptly made its first chart appearance in the top spot. Narrowing this year's best albums down to a list of 15 was a difficult task, more because of what had to be deleted than for what has been included.

My final choices are below, listed alphabetically by the artist's name. 1. "Wired" by Jeff Beck. Beck, with strong support from Michael Walden and Jan Hammer, turned out a powerhouse album, probably the best of his career. 2.

"Breezin' by George Benson. After more than 20 years of recording, Benson Vf 4 Carlos Santana has forced his way back to popular success with this album. II. "Silk Degrees" by Box Scasgs. Yet another in a long series of long-suffering musi-ciaas who made it big this year.

The hit single "Low-down" brought Scaggs's music to a whole new audience. 13. "Rocket Cottage" by Steeleye Span. Although this album received almost no at? tention, it as a musical masterpiece by a group that spe-' cializes in resurrecting and electrifying old English folk songs. 14.

"New England" by Wishbone Ash. Although released very late in the year, this album is too spectacular to ignore and is easily the best al: bum in the group's history. 15. "Songs in the Key of Life" by Stevie Wonder. As with "Frampton Comes Alive," nothing more need be said about the album or the artist that hasn't been said a hundred times before.

Individual-achievement honors this year are fairly clear cut: Best Jazz Guitarist: George Benson for "Breezin." Best Rock Guitarist: Jeff for "Wired." Best Jazz Bassist: Stanley Clarke for "School Days." Best Rock Bassist: Wilbur Bascomb for "Wired." Best Drummer: Phil Collins for "Trick of the Tail" Behavior" by Brand X. Best Keyboard Player: Tony Banks for "Trick of the Tail." Best Female Vocalist: Linda Ronstadt for "Hasten Down the Wind." Best Male Vocalist: Stevie Wonder for "Songs in the Key of Life." Best Songwriter: Stevie Wonder for "Songs in the Key of Life." Best New Group: Boston for "Boston" tied with Heart for "Dreamboat Annie." Worst album: "Rock and Roll Over" by Kiss in dead heat By Rick Atkinson 'PCCk CntiC Rock fans will have no trouble remembering this as the Year of the Superstar. Radio airplay, publicity, and record sales for the year centered around just two men. The first half of the year belonged to Peter Frampton, who broke through to the top -after years of struggling. After hitting last year with "Blood on the Tracks," Dylan made a strong impact with this package, which included the controversial song, "Hurricane." 5. "Spirit" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Any album that can hit the album charts, the single charts, and discos all at once is a guaranteed success. 6. "Frampton Comes Alive" by Peter Frampton.

Listing this album almost seems superfluous after all that has been said and written about the industry's newest superstar. 7. "Trick of the Tail" by Genesis. Far from being hurt by the loss of Peter Gabriel, the band bounced back with its finest and best-selling al- uuui lu umc. 8.

"Rebel" by John Miles. Although this album did not attain any great popular success, it soon will be recognized as the first album by a superstar of tomorrow. 9. "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller. Another performer who has achieved long-deserved success, Miller got no less than three hit singles out of this package, which has sold 2 million copies.

10. "Renaissance Live at Carnegie Hall" by Renaissance. Although still working for mass appeal, Renaissance is building a strong and loyal following in this country. 11. "Amigos" by fcantana.

Doug and Julie Williams are portrayed by Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes, who are married in real life. They met when Bill joined the cast in 1970, and were wed four years later. The TV wedding, culminating a six-year, obstacle-strewn romance, marked the first time the series taped outside its home base Studio 9 on NBC's Burbank lot. Scenes of the wedding party entering and leaving the church were shot at a house of worship in nearby Studio City.

It is believed the wedding was the first to which fans of the series were invited. Invitations were tendered through classified ads in a Los Angeles newspaper. She won an Oscar last year as best supporting actress in "Shampoo." She was nominated for an Emmy, the TV Academy honors, for "Fay" despite its quick demise. She recently completed a costarring role in "Airport "77," an all-star third in that series of features.
