Minutes saved The Ottawa city archives; has just issued a list of all the city council minute books in its possession with a bilingual introduction. Until this list Was completed it was generally believed that the records of Ottawa's past has been lost in the city hall fire of 1931. But the city has a complete set of council minutes from 1847.

Poster winners The Canadian Red Cross Society Ottawa and Valley branch held a successful water safety week and five schools responded to the poster contest. There were 10 winners in two categories including Grades one to three, Michael MacPhee and Debbie MacDonald, Blackburn Hamlet RC school; Grades four to six, Ian Mellish, Leanne Holmes and Kitty Labelle, Bells Corners public school; Richard Kalivoda, Stephen Leacock public school. Honorable mentions went to both schools and included Vicky Smith, Sally Robinson and Cindy Cornwall of Leacock school; Scott Sandiland and Tanya Moloz-zi from Bells Corners. By ALIXE CARTER The Polish-Canadian Women's Federation, Ottawa Chapter recently held its annual general meeting. The organization is an active member of the Polish Canadian Congress and of the Canadian Council of Women, Ottawa branch.

In the past the federation ins Ottawa has been involved in several activities of the social, cultural anad related categories. An important achievement wap the introduction of Polish language as a high school credit course. given under the auspices of the Ottawa board of education. All participating students successfully passed the examination at the grade 11 level. A bursary fund was established and $200 was offered to a student at the University of Ottawa specializing in the philology of the Polish language.

The federation was represented at the centennial celebration of the oldest Polish settlement in Canada, in Wilno, Ont. Active support was given to help organize the international jamboree of boy scouts and girl guides of Polish which is to be held at Kaszuby, hear Barrys Bay, this summer. This event will be attended by groups of boys and girls from Australia, Argentina, the United States and several European countries. Outside the Polish community, the federation took active part in an ecumenical service commemorating the anniversary of the incorporation of the Baltic States by the Soviet Union; in a meeting of the representatives of the Committee of Captive Nations; in a panel discussion within the framework of the Ukrainian Week and in a symposium organized by the Women and the Law Association. As in previous years, members helped to -organize a reception for new Canadians at the Citizenship 'The new executive plans XA carry on the work of the federation in the cultural, social and educational field within -the framework of Ottawa's Polish community.

Its special project this year will be to support and encourage actively the work of the Catholic Schools Foundation of Ottawa, an organization created to promote Catholic higher education. 7 As a first step in this direction it was decided to donate $200 from the bursary fund to the foundation. Ottawa diary Dr. Wilfred Smith, dominion archivist, has sent out invitations for the opening ceremonies of Bird's-Eye view of Canadian Cities, an exhibition of panoramic maps Thurs. July 8 at the Public Archives of Canada.

And the board of trustees of the Ottawa Public Library will hold the official opening of the Alta Vista branch library at 2516 Alta Vista Dr. Thurs.
