54 DAILY NEWS Thursday, December 11, 1986 J.R. (RAY) UTTERSTROM SEATTLE (AP) J.R. (Ray) Utterstrom, 64, a former Boeing Aerospace Co. vice president who helped develop most of the company's commercial aircraft, died Monday. Utterstrom joined Boeing Co.

in 1948. His career included work on the 707, 727, 737 and 747 commercial aircraft, the B-47 and B-52 bombers and the KC-97 and KC-135 aerial tankers. He also developed the first automatic landing system certified for commercial use. Utterstrom retired from Boeing in July. MAXWELL MYER WINTROBE SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -Dr.

Maxwell Myer Wintrobe, 85, a leading hematologist and one of the founders of the University of Utah School of Medicine, died Tuesday of a heart ailment. He provided a scientific base for the description of nutritional anemias, contributed to the understanding of pernicious anemia and sicklecell anemia, and was involved in early work on cancer chemotherapy. CHARLES ABRAHAM WAGNER Charles Abraham Wagner, 88, executive director of the Poetry Society of America from 1964 to 1968 and former literary editor of the New York Mirror, died Sunday at his Manhattan home. Surviving are his children, Carl and Caryl Sudol; a sister, Catherine Schonberg, and seven grandchildren. Walter Foran, 67, the ranking Republican on the Revenue, Finance and Appropriations Committee, died Monday. Foran, who had been a sales executive for W.R. Grace lived in Flemington, N.J. Foran was first elected to the Legislature as an assemblyman in 1969. He was elected to the state Senate in 1977.

He had been Republican chairman of Hunterdon County for nine years. His father, Arthur Foran, had also been a state senator. Surviving are his wife, Anne; two sons, Brian and Frank; a daughter, Leisa Ketchum; a brother, James, and four grandchildren. ASA BORDAGES ASA BORDAGES Asa Bordages, 80, a city newspaperman who was credited with coining the phrase "Murder Inc." to describe the gangster mob that plagued the city in the 1930s and 1940s, died Monday. He lived in Columbia, N.J.

Bordages' wife, Josephine, said her husband, at the time a rewriteman for the New York World-Telegram, created the Murder Inc. name to fit the editorial needs of the newspaper. "He was writing about this mob," she said, "and the editor told him they needed a headline to fit one column. He thought up and it fit." Bordages wrote a play about Murder "Brooklyn, USA," that appeared briefly on Broadway in 1941. He also wrote several novels and was a combat correspondent with the Marines in the Second World War.
