Acting mayor Art Phillips presented the awards to Kim Gaudet. 15, Terry Kelly, 16, and Herb Taylor, 16, for "alertness and public spirited action." The three youths chased and apprehended a suspect last Nov. 1 after a 17-year-old girl was indecently assaulted in Ihe 5800 block Fraser.

In addition to the three scouts, Phillips also presented merit awards to 14 others including three policemen who acted heroically in the face of danger. An estimated 3,000 people attended the ceremony at the Agrodome, which was highlighted by the graduation of 48 police constables. The Sun award to dog and handler went to police Constable G. C. Thompson and the dog Sabre Two, which is now retired on a ranch at Chase.

Thompson and Sabre Two are credited with tracking a suspect for eight hours on Feb. 12, 1970, in a chase that went from the scene of the crime through hush, down city streets and ended in front of the suspect's home. Police constables J. C. Sparks and V.
