The evening opened with the flag ceremony, with Martha Jones leading and Muriel Spaulding at the piano. Spirited club songs marked the supper hour. The business meeting followed and Eleanor Case read the new constitution which was adopted.

Story-Telling Hour Attracts Children THE first Saturday morning story-telling hour at the children's library in the series planned by the child welfare department of the San Bernardino Woman's club, was a huge success, the "capacity audience" occupying all the chairs, the tables and the floors, and some standing. It was an eager company of juveniles that drank in every word of Mrs. C. B. Hutchason's nature story.

There was so much delight expressed by the children of the unexpected large audience, that the chairmen, Mrs. Charles P. Fuller and Mrs. W. S.

Shepardson yielded to the evident desire for a weekly hour instead of the fortnightly story-telling, and there will be another hour next Saturday. The hour will be divided, with the first half hour devoted to the children of the first, second and third year age, and the last half to the children of the fourth, fifth and sixth grade age. Frances Atwood will be the entertainer at the next Saturday morning meeting. The membership reception and tea at the Woman's club will be held this Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8 from 3 to 5, with every woman in the city cordially invited to this "at home," whether a member or not.

Lucille Hansen, program chairman, told of plans for the year. Many "signed up" for the hobby activity they were most interested in. Miss White from Sherman Institute was introduced and Margaret Fredericks, who sang "From the Land of the Sky Blue Water." Ir-ma Harris read "Betty at the Baseball Game." "Whispering Hope" was sung by Margaret Fredericks and Irma Harris, with Gertrude Moffett Irene Astor, president of the senior high school Y.W.C.A. group at Sherman Institute, gave a talk on the work and play. Miss Fredericks sang "Dream of "Paradise," and the Sherman club song' was given by the visitors at the close.

Bel Canto Club Begins Rehearsals For Song Season SEASO.V of song for the Bel Canto club has begun under the leadership of Morris Ruger, the new head of the department of music at the San Bernardino Junior college. Mr. Ruger is particularly well qualified to lead in choral work and hopes to build up a splendid organization with the old members and many new ones who have signified their intention of joining. Special Christmas music Is being rehearsed, an elaborate program being arranged. Miss Winifred Rumsey is to ac company the chorus again this year.

Practice starts at 7:30 every Monday evening in Room 23 of the administration building at junior college. Mr. and Mrs. P. V.

Chapter Will Begin Meetings of The Year Tuesday SA BERNARDINO chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will open the year's meetings on the regular date, the first Tuesday in October occurring on the seventh this year. Mrs. S. B. Pond will be the hostess at her home at Patton.

Reading Club Begins Its Fall Activities Gathering for another of their happy fall reunions at Cafe Madrid yesterday, the Saturday Reading club, founded during the school days of its members by Mrs. A. As has been its custom tor many years, the club meets every fortnight during the winter months for luncheon, a book review, and an afternoon of sewing for the needy. Miss Edith Kellogg was hostess this afternoon, receiving the club shortly after noon for a luncheon of charming appointment. Mrs. Walter Hartzell of Redlands gave the book review reporting on a popular literary work.

Swing will talk on the amendments which will be on the ballot at the coming November election for the approval or disapproval of the voters of the state. They will be discussed by the attorney senator. Lake Arrowhead Woman's club held the regular meeting Oct. 1 at the home of the Misses Ada and Imelda Brooks at Sky Forest. Miss Imelda Brooks who spent the past year traveling in the Orient, gave a most interesting talk, covering as much of her tour as possible in the short time allowed.

She proved an interesting narrator and had many amusing experiences. The members also enjoyed seeing some of the lovely things brought back. Tea was se Ted by the hostesses of the day. The literature of Norway will be studied by the Woman's club Literature study section this year, according to announcement made by the chairman, Mrs. L.
