Ralph S. Wilson, secretary of the civil service board was out of the city yesterday and whether a trial will be ordered could not be ascertained. HARRIET C. ROBERTS Mrs. Harriet C. Roberts, resident of Rialto for 20 years, died yesterday at her home, 101 North Palm avenue, Rialto. She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Ohio, She was the mother of Judge Clark V. Roberts, of Rialto. Other surviv ing relatives are a sister, Mrs. Mary A.

Cochennour of Flora, 111, and a grandson, James C. Burton of Rialto. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday from the Rialto Methodist church.

Annie D. Kistler, wife of John F. Kistler of Fontana, died yesterday at the County hospital. She was 44 years old, a native of Norway and had lived In the state 27 years. Sir Thomas Lipton admitted keen disappointment tonight over the second defeat of his yacht Shamrock by the Enterprise. "I'm terribly disappointed," the aged sportsman said, "There must be something terribly wrong wltn the Shamrock. The street department was authorized to clear weeds and rubbish on Thirteenth street and Sep-ulveda avenue and on Mt Vernon avenue between Tenth and Eleventh streets.

On motion of Councilman Harry G. Lord, traffic lanes will be painted at Seventh street and Mt. Vernon avenue near the Mt. Vernon school. Traffic lanes are also to be painted on West Fifth street at Garner and streets in order to permit employes from the Santa Fe railroad shops to cross the street with greater safety.

By a vote of three to two, the council refused the request of property owners for the Installation of a kitchen, additional rest rooms and lights at the Lytle Creek park. Councilmen Rouse and Suter voted for the Improvements while nega tive votes were cast by Councilmen Lloyd F. Martin, Thayer W. Cline and Harry G. Lord.

Petitions sign ed by 40 residents near the park asking the improvement were submitted. Resolutions of intention for im proving Brook street between Second to Third streets and Third street from Allen to Brook streets were adopted. The diagram assessment for im proving street from Sixth to Eleventh streets was approved, the plans and specifications having been ordered two weeks ago. Resolutions establishing the grades of the following streets were adopted: Twenty-ninth street from to streets; Lincoln avenue from Twenty-eighth to Thirtieth streets. Resolutions of intention of im proving Garner street between Eleventh street and Base Line and for Improving Ollie street from Garner street to a point 254.20 feet ea3t of the center line of Garner street, were read.

Following the street proceedings, the council approved the application of Mrs. C. Martinez for a li cense to practice clalrvoyancy at a residence at 131 Livingston street (Continued from page Eleven) Las Vegas, the return trip to be made more or less at will. The main group will leave the Nevada city early in the evening, returning as far as Barstow Wednesday night The night will be spent at the Bea con tavern, new hotel that has been engaged by the chamber par ty. Some intend to go by train, the Union Pacific sending special cars out of San Bernardino tonight and returning Thursday morning.

Conspiracy Charge Against Convicted Girl Red Dropped A charge of "conspiracy to fly a red flag in opposition to organized government brought against Yetta Stromberg, attractive young Los Angeles agitator, was dismissed in Superior Judge Charles L. Allison's court yesterday on motion of Dep uty District Attorney James L.

King. Miss Stromberg, convicted of a charge of flying a red flag, is at liberty under bond while Attorney John Beardsley of Los Angeles, her counsel, appeals the case to the United States Bupreme court for a decision on the constitutionality of the law under which she was convicted. Miss Stromberg was found guilty in superior court of flying the flag and conspiracy to do the same along with four co-defendants who were convicted of the latter charge. The fourth district court of appeals, however, confirmed Miss Stromberg's conviction on the first count but reversed the conviction against her and the co-defendants on the conspiracy charge. Two Brash Fires Placed Under Control by Rangers Two brush fires, two of them skirting the boundaries of the San Bernardino National forest, were reported under control early last night after having been fought for four hours by rangers of the Federal forest service, state forest rangers and approximately 35 men.

Fanned by a north wind, a fire of undetermined origin burned over about 20 acres of brush near Sweeters' ranch south of Banning just outsicre the national forest boundary, according to information received by C. M. Plumnier, fire dispatcher of the national forest service in San Bernardino. Twenty men under the direction of District Ranger W. M.

Meier of the Mill Creek station and Patrolman Charles Lampkln of the Banning station and assisted by the state pumper from Riverside, had the fire under control at 7 p. m. The second fire was reported near the mouth of Grape Vine canyon, north of "Dead Man's Point" on the desert side of the national forest. Approximately 20 weres of brush were leveled1. Driver Involved in Crash Find $35 for Recklessness Joe Bonlllo of 217 Main street Corona, whose automobile figured in a collision at Third and Carter streets Sunday afternoon was fined $35 in the San Bernardino police court yesterday on a plea of guilty to a charge of reckless driving. Sentence was pronounced by Judge James Sharp of Cucamonga, who presided in the absence of Judge Donald E. Van Luven.

Mitchell will re turn to his home at Redlands. Approximately 40 members and friends of the Fellowship class of the Congregational church gathered at Newberry Springs for their annual picnic Friday evening. After an hour of games, a delicious picnic luncheon was served by the class. The first meeting of Boy Scout troop No. 55 with its new scoutmaster, Fred J.

Goellner, was held at the scout building Friday evening, with a good number in attendance. It is hoped that by the next meeting the entire membership will be present. 1, 1929, he had been stationed in San Bernardino as senior forest ranger of the forest reserve. Previous to his assignment in San Bernardino Mr. Hunt divided his time between the Angeles National forest, the majority of which is In Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties, and the San Bernardino forest in San Bernardino and Riv erside counties. His duties consisted of laying out and surveying all lots and cabin sites on Federal land and handling all land exchanges which involved property in the San Bernardino national forest Mr. Hunt was one of the most popular members of the Federal forest staff in the San Bernardino na tional forest He was educated in the Methodist ministry but gave this up for work as a forester.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his wid ow, residing at 1122 street, and a son, Spencer, 24 years old. Funeral arrangements will be in charge of the Mark B. Shaw Co. California Labor Official Says Wage Conditions Fair (By Associated Press) MAYSVTLLE, Sept 15.

William P. Stanton of San Francisco, president of the State Labor federation, in his annual report to the federation convention here today, said California labor organizations, while suffering from unemployment, have generally been able to main tain existing wage agreements. Approximately 600 delegates attended the opening session. Referring to farm relief as "still a political slogan," Stanton said the bottom of the depression appeared to be still ahead. He praised the attitude of Governor Roosevelt of New York toward unemployment Insurance.

A permanent Institution planning unemployment prevention and relief was suggested by the president Paul Scharrenberg, secretary-treasurer, in his report charged needless sacrifice of human lives in construction under way to assure San Francisco an adequate water supply.
